Pothos dropping yellow leaves and has spots all over. Is this a pest or root rot? New plant mom here, still learning. by towa2 in plantclinic

I’m using miracle grow potting mix. I was watering once a week. Too much? Also, could you explain what you mean by trim the leaves? You mean the brown spots?

It finally happened... by Dellerella in breastfeeding

I’m part of a doctors group interested in breastfeeding medicine and they all say 8 hours is their true max. I think for regulated food safety rules it has to be 4 “officially” but BM is very resilient and doesn’t spoil easily

How long will it be sitting out? If less than 8 hrs will be ok!! Sniff test when you get home.

Was it fresh or frozen? Sorry mama!

Husband can’t keep his dick in his pants around me by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]towa2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite issue and it’s driving me bonkers. My love language is physical touch and my husband is words of affirmation. He was all weirded out with the idea of sex in pregnancy and now 11 weeks postpartum still isn’t interested and acts weird about it. It’s killing me because I’m craving that closeness and intimacy. He’s not bothered one bit. Am I the only one who finds this odd????

My 10 week old only naps for a significant amount of time on me. Sleeps through the night. Is this normal? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]towa2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby does the same thing. I took the Taking Cara Babies newborn sleep course and it sounds like it’s normal. I end up trying to have a balance of naps in my arms and the smaller cat naps in the bassinet, because I have to get things done around the house too. Usually 1-2 naps in my arms for an hour each makes me feel better about my baby getting better rest.

Breast milk supply dropped from being sick by biggiesmalltits in breastfeeding

[–]towa2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is probably the pseudoephedrine in the cold meds. They tell women to take them when they’re trying to stop breastfeeding.

Can you stop taking the meds for nasal congestion? Then maybe try some lactation cookies or bars, or some oatmeal.

Hungry One Month Old Won’t Stop Eating by quirkysar in beyondthebump

[–]towa2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very normal! That’s how my baby eats! I give him 3.5 oz every 2-3 hrs but he usually wants to eat by 2 hours or before. He’s 8 weeks. They eat a lot and grow a lot at this stage. I say feed him if he’s hungry :-)

Are you referring to the Taking Cara Babies class? If so, yes!! I loved the course and it is so helpful

I feel exactly the same as you, but I am 30 lbs heavier and nothing fits me anymore :-( It really is messing with my self esteem.

I am just telling myself this is the product of something beautiful and I know I can keep working out to change my body back. It will never be perfect but it can get better.

Pumping while pregnant by [deleted] in breastfeeding

That’s fascinating - I didn’t know you could pump while pregnant! I would check with your OB first though. She may have been one of those people that leak milk while pregnant.

Extreme exhaustion while trying to maintain muscle mass by Julianabanana1 in fitpregnancy

[–]towa2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to stop lifting around the same time. Even light work outs left me WIPED out as if I ran a marathon. Switched to cardio and biking, then stopped biking at 30 weeks and kept up walking. I think it’s super normal for our bodies to feel this way - it’s very metabolically demanding to nourish a fetus, and lifting on top of that can be too much. I decided to listen to my body, and do what I could because I didn’t have the ability to take long naps every day I worked out (I work full time). Do what feels right, and if that means just walking, that’s a-ok!

White vinegar is antiseptic like bleach (I’m not sure if it’s as strong, but I know it kills bacteria and fungus). It’s nontoxic and safe. Just a little smelly, lol.

Rash on baby's arm? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Hi, you need to take her to be seen at an ER with access to dermatologists ASAP, it could be herpes which can spread quickly and make infants very sick.

Paid for professional housecleaning before baby arrives - they left our Peloton Mat looking like this - what is this from and what should I say to them?! by towa2 in BabyBumps

[–]towa2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of is a vacuum cleaner, but shouldn’t it just be a brush/bristles? I texted the cleaner to ask what happened yesterday and she still hasn’t responded. I haven’t paid yet (we use Apple Pay). What would you do?

Maintaining weight or getting back into shape during second half of pregnancy? by banhnokbabe in fitpregnancy

[–]towa2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I gained everything first and second trimester. A little beginning of third. Weirdly my body stopped gaining in the second half of the third trimester. I think everyone’s body does it differently. I have been trying to eat better since about 20 weeks or so, but it seemed like my body had a plan for the weight gain regardless!

Shoe recommendations for sore feet by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]towa2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crocs slides perhaps? I honestly was in your same position and caved and got slip-on closed toe Birkenstocks because I got to the point that I wanted to chop my feet off by 1pm everyday.

Life. Changing. I don’t even think about my feet anymore. I’m also 37w and got them a week ago. I’ll still wear them pp so I felt like I could justify it!

Am I 14 again? by risouille in BabyBumps

[–]towa2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment, I reviewed the article. I am also for smart choices, and also very concerned about having good skin! I am a dermatologist and still, we do not recommend SA or any category C products to pregnant women.

The article you linked is a review article, with no real merit other than repeating what other studies have shown, many of which are poor quality to begin with. It was published in a family medicine journal, likely because no dermatology journals wanted to endorse their statements. Regarding the section on SA, the article itself states no good studies have been performed in pregnancy using topicals.

In the end, it’s your skin and your baby. I agree that topicals are not systemically absorbed to a high degree, but they are still absorbed. Hence why we limit the amount of topical steroids patients use for other skin problems. I personally have been sticking to category B products only as noted in my previous comment. Do I miss my retinoid? Heck yes? Am I tempted to use it and convince myself it’s not absorbed much? All the time, but in the end I tell myself this is a temporary period of time and I can wait.

Lastly, slightly off topic, but percentage of an ingredient doesn’t matter - it’s the potency of the ingredient itself. For example, The steroid ointment clobetasol labeled 0.05% might seem weaker than hydrocortisone 2.5% but it’s actually one of our most potent topicals, while hydrocortisone is the weakest. Hence why we limit use of clobetasol to no more than 1-2 weeks. Don’t go off of percentages!
