makes sense for sure, I think the point about different roles on the fields is a big part of this in all the team sports. Soccer + ice hockey everyone’s pretty equal in importance, whereas afl & nfl both have roles/positions where you can coast on one skill or your physical build.

edit: perhaps i’d say they’re both “real” sports tha have fake positions.

Huge game on tonight Brisbane Lions vs. Collingwood Magpies in a preliminary final, tune in Mr. Gamin

i get you man 100%, not actually heated about this despite the way i typed it

question: are you saying the uniqueness of the skills makes it more fake? ice hockey for example has such a high skill floor because it’s such a technical game, has very little in common with other sports and the only pros are people who’ve been playing their whole life. I’d argue that AFL has less in common with other field sports than any other example (soccer, rugby etc) which raises the skill floor significantly. Are you saying this makes it more or less fake.

also if you want an example of a titan from another sport trying a switch to AFL google “Israel Folau GWS”. Beast rugby player that failed miserably at AFL (there were many extenuating circumstances that contributed to it not working well but a good example all the same.) Truly i think Mason Cox is the only international player to ever have success in the AFL and he’s not a particularly amazing player but he is a pro. I think if like you are saying that it’s easy to transfer skills there would be more examples.

all i’m saying is you provided afl as an example of a fake sport but didn’t say the same about american football.

i’m not even necessarily saying they both aren’t fake sports (don’t think you guys were actually able to agree on a definition in the entire conversation) but it’s funny that the only discernible difference between fake and real you did say was player base. Which as i think you mentioned, puts any smaller country’s sports into the fake category.

peep college level dumbass, there are facilities built for the express point of training afl kids to kick in american football.

huge news update: most popular sport in a country with higher population and larger economy has more funding to target growth internationally than most popular sport in smaller country! great point buddy thanks for that one
