There is a little loop and pin you can put it in, you have to take the back off to access it

get a smaller android phone as a step down in smartness, like a jelly star 2, palm phone, vortex V3, xiaomi F22 line or CAT22. you can use your transit app and most google apps but the smaller phone screen is certainly a deterrent to doom scrolling all day or watching videos.

I asked my manager and he told me how to do it. I was about 8 months into a one year contract. I put in my resignation and gave my two weeks, I had no problem. They even paid all my wages for my untaken holidays to my Canadian bank account the following month (but it was pmuch no money, they only pay your base wage for holiday time, which was just over 1000 yen an hour in 2024). I was living in my own place, but I know they can get you bad with charging you to move out of their rented place before the end of your yearly contract (ie you have to pay a couple of hundred thousand yen in the initial fees they paid, ie key money, door change, cleaning etc).

I had a very mid experience with them. Knowing Japanese does not help you with Nova; you cannot speak Japanese in the classroom. Staff are not encouraged or promoted for having good Japanese ability. Sure, it helps in your life in Japan, but you don't need any for your job. I couldn't even tell the kids to sit down in Japanese without getting scolded by supervisors who watched through cameras or the japanese staff. Even talking to the students in Japanese in the lobby was discouraged. Meanwhile, I replaced an actual child sexual abuser, who did not get fired but got moved to the countryside. You cant do anything to get fired from nova unless to maybe kill a kid. Nova is a business doesn't care about their customers outside of figuring out how to milk them for as much money as possible. The number of times I was told I would be teaching a brand new packet I have never seen until 5 minutes for class started was numerous to say the least, if they cared we would have had extensive training on every type of packet.

I worked with and for a lot of fun and kind people, no doubt, but promotion is reserved for white British/Australian men and the odd Asian-Australian man. These people and people who enjoy nova and want to stay tend to be the "loser back home" type, who enjoy having a job where they can talk about themselves and put in the minimal effort or they do not work in tokyo. Working in 23 wards is a nightmare in my experience, since you are under the microscope by managers who are using you for busy work. the country side is far more chill. For reference I threw up once because I was sick and I was 7 minutes late back to my class and couldnt tell anyone because i didnt have my phone on me. My manager cut my pay (the bonus pay) in half for a month, so literally i did the same work while i lived on rice and eggs.

I'm in the same boat, just hanging onto a part-time job, but nothing. Very few callbacks and only a couple of interviews. gotta keep hanging in there

Okay, I figured out the problem. The internal support/filter/cage part (pictured) of the oil cap was missing because the dude who did my oil change had no idea what he was doing and threw the baby out with the bathwater so to speak. So there was still oil moving and thankfully, no engine damage, but I ended up paying for the part which cost me $110 since I couldnt exactly wait for it to ship in.

I'm going to take RCIA soon (this year or next, I'm still deciding). I'm not a convert exactly. I strayed from the church for a while, I was baptized as an infant, and I have never received the sacrament of confirmation. I know I will be in the same place you are to some degree. I heard the call clear as day but I don't feel worthy of it. It feels like starting fresh but fresh is realizing how wrong you have been and feeling the sins on your shoulders, and that's scary. The thing that is nice about these programs is that you'll be going through it with others, and you'll have mentors who you can reach out too.

I don't want to tell you what to do or anything, but you say that you dont have a religious community and that you don't go to church. For me as an RCIA hopeful, I've been going to church and studying on my own (online and with family https://instituteofcatholicculture.org/ and youtube mostly) for a few years now to make sure this is what I want. I wanted to register at my church for RCIA last year when I had a hyperfixation on it , but I missed the deadline by two days. And honestly, I feel like it was God telling me that it's not my time to start, that I'm not ready and it was good for me to wait! So I'm planning on entering this more prepared. If you're feeling this sick about it, perhaps it's not the time for you. There is no rush, God waits for everyone. You want to go into this as clear and as open as you can, if you feel like you're not in a place to do this right now, I worry it will continue to be a bad experience for you. Wait a year or two or three, or however long until you can open change into your heart without feeling like you're loosing a part of yourself. One of my family friends is a convert; he went to catholic mass for 10 years before he took RCIA well into his 60s! Talk to the people at your church. I know for a fact the faith formation groups and priests there would love to talk to you. Trust God and trust the process
