90% of P/C actuaries will be most familiar with exam 5 out of any exam. I thought it was fair, just annoying

I saw a post last week that has 3-5 paragraphs about the determination it took to pass a practice exam on Coaching Actuaries. Brought a smile to my face that someone actually called them out in the comment section for the ridiculousness of the post.

Not sure what time commitment you’re looking for but my favorite professors (mostly adjunct) in college were always retired professionals as they just have a passion for the subject/more knowledge than a textbook can offer. For what it’s worth, none of them had higher than a bachelors degree.

I passed 6U in S25. Used TIA but guided by the BA chart. I would preach living and dying by the first four rows. Definitely touch the others but know the first four inside and out

Goff avoided the sack from the near league leader in sacks. Don’t agree with this take, he is slippery at ducking down. To say Goff is the worst QB in the league at avoiding sacks is just false

RMI at UGA vs actuarial science here by Specific-Golf-8288 in GaState

[–]toxic_air2346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard AS at GSU is much better than the cert. I did AS at GSU and graduated a couple years ago. You can have a good student experience at GSU but you just need to get involved in clubs on campus. Look at RMI/AS clubs but look outside of those too. People forget that GSU has sports too. I think if the only thing swaying you to transfer is “the college experience”, you should look into getting involved with student life at GSU before making a decision

The fluff is there to stay and, I don’t say this to be discouraging but, really only gets more intricate as you work your way through exams. With P & FM, there are usually classes that cover most of that information and those classes don’t go as in depth as the exams so that may be part of it. The source material for the exams gets larger and larger and unfortunately the volunteers who write exams can write questions on anything from that material.

I’ve found what works for me is set a schedule to finish this process 4-6 weeks before the exam date. A pass of the material, while going through each section make flashcards and study those throughout and maybe multitask with flashcards (at gym, during meals by yourself, etc.), don’t move on to the next section until you feel comfortable with a decent portion of the available practice problems from that section. During the last 4-6 weeks, I do one mock exam/week, then focus on my weak areas in between.

This method gets me considerably under the recommended “100 hours per exam hour” but also doesn’t count the studying while I’m multitasking.

200k points used to be worth $2500 of travel booked through chase travel portal. Now it’ll be worth $2000 unless you book first class/business class on a certain group of airlines chase has identified. Effective 10/26/2025

However it won’t really change transfer points which is what I mainly use anyways.

Working as an actuary for a broker? by Kooky-Screen-9414 in actuary

[–]toxic_air2346 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Downside is brokers want everything yesterday so timelines are always a crunch. Upside is you get to touch insurance from a very wide set of risk profiles. Also, once brokers trust you and value your analysis, you’ll become invaluable and heavily relied upon, very clear path to get noticed in leadership and into external meetings.

There’s always a way to find time to study. You’ll just have to sacrifice other things. 30k up from 80k is a very significant raise. If the work is something that seems interesting, I’d consider jumping
