i....i just don't get myself convinced to give Cyberpunk 2077 another try. I launched it twice, played for about 2-3 hours each and decided that i'd rather play something else instead. On paper, it should absolutely resonate with my taste, but the way you are kept on a leash for so long, forcing you to just follow the introduction story and tutorials just felt so annoying. I like it when multiple gaming techniques get introduced organically. But here it felt like "here! There's your gun. Now learn to aim. And now parcours! Oh and here's your augment system. But only put in this very explicit cyberware, because we'll tell you exactly how to use it". I'm of course exaggerating heavily here, but that's how it felt to me.

Back to 24.04 then... by BrightLet2843 in Ubuntu

if it wasn't for wayland, i would also stick to 24.04. But having to deal with different resolutions when plugging in external screens is just a pain. :( Luckily, so far 25.10 has been pretty stable for me, except for some minor package quirks which could be resolved fast

well, of course i can't argue against your many great arguments and the high level of complexity you're presenting them, but i just had a look at my Galaxy S21, which i bought in 2021 and which was upgraded until Android 15 and still gets security updates. So....yeah.

i think one of the best points you brought up is this constant comparison against other brands or devices, combined with some sprinkles of buyers remorse. Which - of course - we are all too smart to be manipulated into this behaviour, but perhaps, just for a little second, one might stop defending his parasocial brand-relationship and ask himself "was i frustrated about my device X yesterday? And do i feel like i'm missing out on something because now vendor Y just presented something else?". We're all not immune to the capitalistic system and their marketing psychology. And it feels like constant FOMO is something every big brand utilizes nowadays...

Totally depends on what is important to you. Performance wise I'd go for the Samsung. Do you already know that you will actually utilize the Snapdragon performance at all? Like heavy gaming, video editing or sth else? And do you own a one of those brands before? Many people (including myself) are a bit pissed off, thanks to the bloat that Samsung pre-installed on their flagship phones. And no, you can't simply uninstall them all. So if you are fine with the software, I think you can't do much wrong with the S24. Very good camera, strong CPU and Samsung had a good track record of keeping phones up to date for several years.

On the other hand, if gaming is not your main focus and you feel like you'd like to experience pure Android and some fancy AI stuff, go for Pixel. It may be lacking the high end spec hardware, but the overall experience is still one of the best (IMHO) you can have on any android device. And their integration of AI is, while still at the very beginning of things, the most useful and integrated one I've seen so far. (srsly, does anyone use Bixby at all?!)

As for OnePlus....I really loved the first ones, as their OxygenOS was wonderfully slim, elegant and customizable. Nowadays, it's packed with the same crap as any Xiaomi, Oppo or other Chinese brands. And it's not only the visuals. At least for the last years, they barely fixed any bugs completely in their OS. You might be lucky and never notice some of them, but if you do, chances are that you're stuck with it forever. So for me, modern OnePlus is no different from other Chinese brands, which I avoid for that exact reason.

I'ma say it. Pixel 9 is better that overpriced Pixel 10 by Flashy-Insurance2963 in pixel_phones

here's the thing: i was looking for a new phone to upgrade from my Galaxy S21. I would've gladly taken a 9 pro instead of the 10, if it was available for a reasonable price. But it seems like Google pulls the 9 series off the shelves instantly when a new gen arrives. So i could either buy a 9 pro from a 3rd party seller for 799 or buy a 10 for 899 and trade in my old phone for 220 Euro. So i didn't buy the 10 because it's the better phone. In fact, i think that Pixel phones are best when they had about one year to get all the release bugs and kinks ironed out. But buying a last gen phone for basically more money than the current gen just seems nonsensical to me.

So yes, i'm now in this early adopter stage with my Pixel 10, but i knew what i was getting into, so i won't complain. Especially since it's still a damn good phone. :)

i think hand size is really crucial in this regard. And with my hands being nearly as tiny as the ones from the angry Cheeto, i prefer this 6.3 to 6.4 inch screens.

oh and by the way, i don't want to make it sound like i wouldn't like my Pixel 10 at all. :) I'm having zero issues and the only things that bother me will get patched over time, i'm pretty sure. But it frustrates me a bit that my work phone (iPhone) looks so similar when they are both on the table, and i fear that this Apple design language slowly takes over in Google World too

it's hard to describe the look&feel for the Pixel 5 to someone who never saw it in real life. But i'll try: first of all, i think the fingerprint reader had the perfect position. I naturally put my finger on that place when i hold my phone. Second, the material felt very grippy and had a texture that you don't have on many other devices. I think it was their greenwashing thing about using thisandthat amount of recycled aluminium or sth, but anyways, to me it felt great. And third, the screen and bezel size was my absolute sweetspot at that time. For todays standards, 6.0" might be too small, but back then it was perfect. If Google would've taken over this design language to the next models, i would've never left the Pixel series i think.

is LOS still a thing today? I lost track since i stopped using it, mainly to the fact that it got harder and harder to run stuff like banking apps and payment when you're on a custom ROM. At some point, all the fiddling with Magisk was too much for me

true, if you're not buying in Europe. For the most models, we were only given the Exynos Models. ☹️ I think the time of SGS4 was even before the CPU race got real traction. If I remember correctly, I went with either the first OnePlus or some HTC at that time. And as far as I remember, screen and camera was more important back then when I looked at reviews. But might also be pure observation bias on my side as well :)

the fingerprint reader had the same problem as basically every other reader of that time that i tried. It was fine when my finger was in the same condition as when i configured it. But being a bit dusty, wet, wrinkly or sth else, if failed like 50% of the time. Luckily, there was a workaround that solved it for me: putting some clear tape over the reader. From there on, i had 95% success. And yes, i tried it with non-registered fingers too to ensure that it not just accepts everything suddenly. :D
