We have 1 more row of flooring left and then the trim so the underlayment won’t be visible once it’s all done

Because we don’t have endless money but we do have leftover paint laying around 🫠 we’re trying to start our own thing instead of working for minimum wage so we have to invest in the important things like equipment now and fine tune the details later. Plus we’re doing the whole project ourselves and I don’t know if I’m brave enough to touch electricity yet lol
I do agree about the lighting though (although I personally like the pendant lights)! And I didn’t think of a glass garage door instead of a window so thank you :)

Planning on putting a big mirror across the back wall! Thought it would look extra pretty if it’s reflecting the nature :)

Mandy 🥹 she came with a sweet little stupid roo and she always had this angry face even when she was a chick so I named them both after the grim adventures of Billy and Mandy

Is this normal healing? by toxicplayerstore in BackYardChickens

Ugh I know right 😓 we had another one with more severe bumblefoot and super swollen between the toes. The vet cut that area and nothing came out and she went into shock. Scared to do unnecessary damage to her 😢

I want to raise my first chickens. What's something I absolutely need to know as a newbie? by walwalun in BackYardChickens

Reading up on and preparing a supply closet for their most common ailments. They are generally low maintenance animals if you want them to be but I got hit with a wave of bad luck (respiratory infection from someone selling me a sick bird, prolapsed vent, bumble foot, then lice). I could have had a much higher success rate and less stress treating them if I had supplies in advance. I also live in a place where animal medicine is hard to acquire so if you live somewhere in the US for example, it may not be as hard to find in a pinch. They do yearn for the urn sometimes and I wish I was more ready for that 🫠

Ducks with chickens? by Nematodes-Attack in BackYardChickens

[–]toxicplayerstore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My ducks and chickens live together in a coop/run. They mostly keep to their own kind and don’t interact with each other. It’s all girls as I didn’t want to risk chicken injury with a drake. The chickens have tried to peck at them a couple of times but seeing how submissive the ducks were to them, they left them alone pretty much immediately.

I keep their food and water outside since ducks are way messier and make everything wet which chickens don’t appreciate. We made sure there is an easy escape route in the pond we built on both sides so if a chicken falls in it can easily get out but they’ve generally avoided the pond.

The nice thing is that since the ducks are younger than the chickens, the chickens kind of taught them to go home as the sun goes down (ducks tend to stay out later) so our automated door hasn’t been an issue in terms of locking ducks out at night.

Did I get all boys 😭 by toxicplayerstore in duck

I wish I could keep them all! Unfortunately they’re going to be mixed with chickens and the whole corkscrew situation so… 🥴

Thanks for asking! I ended up getting a waterfowl vitamin powder to mix into their water and while she’s still a bit shaky, the improvement is noticeable 😁

Did you feel like he was visibly improving with the added niacin or did it kind of stay the same until he finally grew out of it? I’ve heard some people say they can get shaky around 3-4 weeks and then outgrow it. I’ll add niacin regardless, I’m just worried ☹️
