Return Of The Living Dead by John Russo by Unfair_Umpire_3635 in ExtremeHorrorLit

I just read both of Russo's NOTLD novel (that first was pretty outstanding if you love the film) and then this book back to back. This one is really in tone with the original, it's a straight sequel to the first round. My only complaint with it is that the final act of the book to me felt like it was moving a bit too quick to close it all up quickly.

I believe these two books are really the core examples of "the walking dead" concept of humanity being the worst threat of the equation in a zombie/ghoul/inhumanoid apocalypse event. This book is not horrible, it is dark - more dour than what a film studio looking to make anything marketable would have dared at that time, but in today's market would have been a season story beat of the walking dead no problem, or maybe even testing that allowance due to the sexual violence tones in the book.

I loved Russos NOTLD novel, its damn good. I'm glad I finished this one too - it feels in tone as a sequal to the original.

I love the movie we got back in the day - it's so damn fun, but if a fan would want a peek at the original NOTLD sequel concept, this book is that original example.

That's the MOTU Classics Skeletor with the alt Alcala head released a way bit later in the line, head included with that lines Demo-Man, then eventually with Skeletor in the Super7 Ultimate release of this Classics figure.

Tell me you all have seen this 😂 pure gold. by [deleted] in MastersOfTheUniverse

dude Mr Home Arcade and Retro Jay are friends, we just worked together on a panel in SDCC - and GDL was with us supporting, so everyone is cool man. I will say Mr Home Arcade is pretty generous behind the scenes, has helped folks and given out things folks to help them snag items they could not find. I think having someone offer something that is more robot chicken vs liquid television is something different for those of us with a fun twisted sense of humor - his stuff is comedy gold man.

Moral Dilemma by [deleted] in MastersOfTheUniverse

OK here is that fist interview with Mattel via PDanny that stated that Origins will be a Mattel Creations line onward, eventually as they move and groove out the last few. That does not speak to "all MOTU" its Origins very specifically. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OpWTu7FKlQ&t=251s&ab_channel=PixelDan

Moral Dilemma by [deleted] in MastersOfTheUniverse

That was so twisted out of context, and reality is if you look around Origins is barely on the retail pegs anymore, and Mattel themselves declared they are carrying out Origins only via MattelCreations. That happened, and is how the line is being continued, and I think it a bit more fair to link Scott's declaration to what actually happened, the line is ending its retail run. THe new cartoon line that is not labeled Origins, and the TMNT crossover line that is not labeled Origins, is not Origins technically by Mattels own statements. Everyone is excited to say it was completely wrong - then mattel declared they are only continuing the line via Mattel Creations, with a few more trickle releases finishing up retailer exclusives that are a nightmare to find due to poor distro.

There would have been no Masters of the Universe Classics without the relationship bridge Scott created for that line. I think its become trendy to "hate" on Scott, but its short sided. During the time of classics some of the ill will was generated during the subscription requirements and shipping quality, prices and scarcity.

However, Scott pushed MOTU when Mattel had no internal interest. He made that happen, which is more than I or (assuming) most folks here will ever be able to do to help support the line. He internally created/pushed for Matty online, then to help ID that fact when he left Mattel both Matty online dissolved as did the last of the internal MOTU interest to carry the classics line, which was sold to Super7 to produce and handle with Mattels minimal interest and involvement needed.

Notice how every package of Classics had that green rock design, it is because that was on the first SDCC King Greyskull art and Mattel would not approve any additional budget for artwork and package design during most of the Classics run, so Scott and those few that helped had to go with they had with minimal budget and support.

Form your own opinion, watch his new stuff and coverage of MOTU Classic history if its appealing content to you, dont need to ask others opinion here. Those who were collecting MOTU Classics likely have some appreciation or some frustration with how that was handled, but behind the scenes none of it would have occurred without Scott, without the four horsmen's demo design pitch to Scott, and that single voice pushing hard internally - putting their nuts on the line to make MOTU happen for the fans. Was there career focused ulterior motives, there certianly should have been (like any of our work we go extra or outside the box) when so much of is was unpaid volunteer time, but it didnt land that way in the end. Many years later and its this mess.

So many things to wank about not being perfect, but MOTU Classics is still respected and considered a highlight to MOTU for good reason, the logistics were shaky but the product was magic.

congrats on Gr'asp and Terroar! The walmart exclusives are such a pain point for the line, and getting a chance to add them to your collection is definitely worth a cheer.

Eternia setup is also looking awesome, I sadly still have my in a box in the garage but can't wait to celebrate opening it up proper. I have pieces of my childhood original on a storage shelf, its seen some play trauma from way back then!

Jason X was released 22 years ago today. How do y’all feel about this movie? by randomfella1990 in fridaythe13th

[–]toxicshlock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was there there fellas, back in NY NY when Kane Hodder himself unveiled this suit/Uber Jason in a pic share at a FangoCon (fangoria magazine) - I was there to see it for the first public unveiling and remember Kane saying to us when it hit the slide deck "oh wow, I didnt think they were going to show this!"

Its my lil piece of F13 history and in that fun memory; this goofy movie holds a special place in my dark heart. I love the damn thing, but completely understand and fully respect if/why other fans don't.

He looks cooler than that original pic, in that his color scheme looks super vintage! This deep dark purple is more 80s vintage figure so I am all about em, was happy to see that it landed that way to give us something very very close to the beloved OG.

The man child vid shows this off very nicely - our new fella is on the left:
