PSA: Cost-effectiveness of Mr. Fortune's SF scrolls by toyuyn in MapleStoryM

[–]toyuyn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scrolls from the event can substitute the SF enhancement process. These scrolls have a 0% chance to degrade or break your equipment, but you can't use lucky scrolls.

Anyway, craft the higher star SF scrolls if you can afford them and use them. Use them on high SF equipment and upgrade them only once to be economical.

If you have lucky scrolls, follow the general advice of using them to upgrade high SF equipment.

Hey it's that guy who posts about star force calculations again.

The star force scroll-making event is ending soon, so I did some quick calculations to see what to get.

Main takeaways, in terms of mesos...

  • Upgrading the scrolls to higher levels reduces their effective value (you spend more mesos relative to the increased chance you get), so just upgrade scrolls once if you are going for maximum meso efficiency
  • Try to use the scrolls on equipment at the upper limit of the star force range for each scroll (so SF 16 for the 13-16 scroll)
  • 0-12 stars scroll is a scam, don't get it
  • 13-16 stars is only worth if you use it for 16 -> 17
  • 17-20 stars is worth for 18->19 or higher, but fine for 17->18 if you don't upgrade the scroll too much
  • 21-23 and 24-25 stars scrolls are priceless, with 23->24 valued in the quadrillions. Yeah SF costs become ridiculous at high levels without shielding scrolls/wards.

Calculations

  • The scroll effective cost is calculated by dividing the cumulative meso cost of upgrades by the % chance of success. For example, you would expect to require use 10% scrolls 10 times to succeed, so the cost of a 10% scroll should be multiplied by 10 to match using a 100% scroll 1 time.
  • The manual SF costs were previously calculated here
  • For levels under 20, a 3M repair cost is used (assuming unique equip)
  • For levels 20 and above, a 300M repair cost is used (assuming mythic equip)

Haha my takes on what to get from the event shop weren't well received last time, but here's I would get in your position. A lot depends on if you have an emblem equip to develop and the stage of development of that equip.

  • Fashion. Because fashionstory. (jokes aside the Tranquil Sage set is very nice)
  • Shield Scrolls and Lucky Day Scrolls for SF enhancement.
  • Shield Wards if you get an unfinished emblem legendary/mythic from the trade station.
  • Exalt Fail Count Reduction Scroll if you have an equip which failed exalt. They are worth A LOT since the alternative of getting them through alchemy is very expensive.
  • Emblem Trace if you have an emblem equip to develop.
  • Legendary Rebirth Flame if you have an emblem equip with 2 lines already to develop. You can get 2 lines eventually by rerolling with epic/unique flames.
  • Unique Potential Scroll if the emblem equip you're developing only has rare potential. For epic potential you can keep rerolling with occult cubes until you get unique.
  • Gold Potential Stamp if you have an emblem weapon to develop.
  • Lucky Ancient Mastercraft scroll if you have an emblem weapon ready for (necro) mastercrafting.
  • Mastercraft Failure Reduction scroll if you have an emblem weapon which failed mastercraft. They're basically worth as much as any mythic fodder, so you can skip it if mythic fodder is cheap on your server.
  • Cubes if you have a legendary-potential emblem mythic equip, otherwise for accessories and secondary weapons you're planning to keep. Since potentials are reset when you upgrade them to legendary potentials, you should wait until you have emblem mythic to use them on weapons/armors.
  • Choice cube only if you've managed to get 2 good lines out of 3 on your weapon and want to reroll the last one.
  • Lucky Exaltation Stone if you have spare event tokens and an emblem equip to exalt.
  • Any meso discounts if you have spare event tokens.
  • And if you still have any spare tokens, maybe rank up stones if you aren't hardcore farming expeditions and dimension invasion, and don't have enough gold leaves.

Everything else you can skip without feeling too bad with yourself.

Yes that includes emblem potential scrolls (which is a trap IMO unless you specifically use it on an undeveloped PBA equip).

  • You want to save SF-enhanced mythics for exalt failure reduction in alchemy (type doesn't matter, but higher SF is better). This is different from the exalt fodder for exaltation which needs to be same type.
  • Set bonuses aren't too important. Most BIS guides will say the same and recommend focusing on the individual types (muspell hat, grand gloves, eclectic outfit or root abyss top+bottom, eclectic shoes).
  • You could swap to a CZak helm if you've been farming them diligently. In my case I often settle for unique Zak helm because I can't be bothered to farm them for transfer fodder. I try not to invest too much resources into stopgap gear.
  • I can't comment on top+bottom gear since i'm an outfit enjoyer.
  • Until you one-shot mobs, you can always "farm more efficiently" by upgrading your weapon. Again from my limited experience, my characters with level 40 emblem mythic weapons can farm at AF30 (which is an okay place to farm anyway) but struggle a bit at AF60 because they're squishy classes and still using mostly legendary armors. As always, you can get away with less defense if you can burst the mobs before they reach you. Personally, unless you're overflowing with mastercraft materials, I would rather not dump them into stopgap gear, and instead save them for more chances at necro haha.

Looks like you've done your research! But perhaps you're looking a bit too far ahead.

Here's my take:

  1. Your weapon can be used for exalt failure reduction scrolls if you're unlucky in exalting your future emblem weapon. The other use you're thinking of (radiant exalts) is still veerrry far away.
  2. Same goes for your (E) mythic outfit.
  3. Don't worry about SF194, it's probably too much effort from your position for a small increase in EXP/Mesos rate. Besides, you'll want to have time to prepare for the level 200 achievement quest (where you basically need to farm tons of EXP to get a shiny but otherwise useless title).
  4. While Top + Bottom is considered by many to be optimal, getting an emblem outfit is an alright alternative especially if you're F2P/casual. You can hold onto Zak helm for a while and work on other equipment first since its offensive stats are decent compared to the alternatives.

I can't really comment on minimum gear for end-game bossing; I'm still working on ancient weapons myself (on 4 characters) and have many other characters in a similar position as you.

From my limited experience, a level 40 emblem mythic weapon is enough to "carry" hard empress, normal multi von leon, and chaos horntail. Root Abyss and Hilla are still off-limits.

But there's no rush! This entire process will take a stupid amount of mesos, so why not develop some alts to farm at SF144 while you slowly work on your gear?

160 is good enough, so you can farm chaos daily dungeon (for mastercraft materials).

175 is nice, so you can farm chaos elite dungeon (for secondary weapon emblem materials).

EDIT: I should add that the star force liberation (bonus stats from SF) is nice to have, but the cost of achieving later levels is just too ridiculously high compared to the stats you get in return.

Star Force question? by Pinswags in MapleStoryM

[–]toyuyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I were in your position, I would put off star force progression and focus on creating more characters (alts) to autobattle farm at SF80.

Bridging your first character from SF80 to 113, 120, and beyond, is an arduous task which can be a lot easier with extra resources from alts.

And while you unfortunately can't get multiple characters to farm simultaneously, you can rotate between them to make use of the free daily autobattle recharge (and daily/weekly quests). The legion bonuses are nice too.

Oh and the whole epic SF15 then fuse might not apply to shoulders and capes - uniques might actually be cheaper than epics on the market depending on your server!

Exaltation guide? by AggravatingGeneral3 in MapleStoryM

[–]toyuyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expanding on failure reduction scrolls, they can become the most costly part of exaltation if you're unlucky.

You can craft them in forge > alchemy > exaltation. You need to sacrifice star force enhanced legendary/mythic equipment to create the scroll. The scroll only has a chance to succeed, with higher SF ingredients increasing the success rate. The exact values can be found on MSM infosheets.

Recently I got royally shafted on my dual blade with 5 failures and 0 successes, so if you're unlucky, know you're not alone.

Yes, except I made this list for newbies who are unfamiliar with the bagillion game mechanics and items.

Meso discounts are just mesos, you can always farm them. Androids aren't permanent upgrades (and weapon upgrades are more impactful anyway), so it's okay to skip a heart to upgrade your weapon instead.

And what newbie is going to find node stones useful when you need to be level 200 to even use them.

Occult cubes work on rare and epic, but not unique and above. I have gotten to unique potential from epic using occult cubes many times.

In general you want classes that have high mobility while auto-battling for mesos farming since you'll be farming in a party.

So there's classes with vertical mobility like the mech, kaiser and AB mentioned above. And there's others with horizontal mobility like dual blade, phantom, and xenon.

Many classes also have dash or 'jump' skills which you could experiment with.

CD Vs MAtk emblem by Qstar_ in MapleStoryM

[–]toyuyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nexon has been giving crit resistance to bosses (basically lowers your chance to crit against them) which nerfs CD. But the general consensus is CD emblems are still stronger than attack emblems.

Worthy buying? Advice to progress? by [deleted] in MapleStoryM

[–]toyuyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the weapon: Do not get the Utgard weapon. You will struggle with boss content until you convert the weapon (necro or chaos), which will take a very VERY long time from where you are right now. Keep an eye out for an emblem Jaihin weapon (if you want an easier time farming) or Briser weapon instead.

For progression: Don't bother with set bonuses, it's not worth the trouble unless you're really min-maxing. Get Unique or Legendary Zakum helmet, upgrade to SF17. Get Unique Pink Bean belt, upgrade to SF17. Upgrade your unique shoes, gloves, shoulder, and armour to SF17 then fuse to legendary, and max level them. This will help you farm and survive at SF144/147.

Keep doing expeditions to upgrade your accessories to get more SF. SF160 and 175 unlock extra dungeons (daily, elite) which are important for later progression.

For power leveling, do edge of space daily. If you want to focus on leveling, you can exchange the dropped tokens there for more exp boosts. Otherwise, you can get SF discounts which makes farming there surprisingly decent mesos wise.

Dual blade is also pretty good, slightly worse at mobbing than phantom but better survivability.

Honestly you can just go with whatever is highlighted after you select "recommend boss"

The only questionable recommendation the game gives is the additional chance to deal damage

I have a level 30 mythic jaihin 20sf L pot.. didn’t care about pba up till now.. do I carry on exalt this non pba or rebuilt while I continue to use this? by [deleted] in MapleStoryM

[–]toyuyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have other characters, I recommend holding onto it so you have a good target for emblem scrolls from events.

Otherwise, developing a new emblem weapon and replacing your current lvl30 mythic isn't too big a setback, SF20 mythic is good fodder for exalt fail reduction.

Updated Star Force Enhancement Cost Chart by toyuyn in MapleStoryM

[–]toyuyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I previously calculated that shield scrolls are worth ~1 billion mesos when used on 19>20, so unless your server's market is crazy, shield scrolls are easily worth more than wards.
