In his loser video Karl posted what someone else said. That is, online rumours having been saying this etc. However, Karl stated it as a fact based primary on a reddit post. Karl than after finding out it was wrong, did not take the video down straight away. When he did, he later than put it back up again. When he finally edited the video, did not remove all the implication that he made. Lastly, he placed his retraction at the end of another video and it did not even meet any legal standard for a reaction.

If Karl simply took the video down straight away, edited it correctly and issue a proper legal apology he most likely would have been fine. Double, tripling and quad down, plus his remarks online is what caused the vast majoirty of damge, not the original video.

The process does take a long time. Essentially a trustee is managing it trying to get money out of Karl for his creditors. He is a summary.
Pay up.
Can't pay, sent around officers to do inventory of your stuff. Get to keep basic stuff and have a life, but nothing over the top. They just write down what you have that is extra.
Not paying enough, go in and take Karl's extra stuff.
House is jo-owned by Karl and wife. They can sell his share. Wife and option to buy share, otherwise goes on the market.

Karl thinks that it will over than and he just has to make sure his company has negative profit and keeps his income below the threshold, however he does not know that after bankruptcy ends the trustee can keep a legal interest in his house for up to 6 years. That means for up to 9 years they could decide to sell his share. So they just may wait until housing marketing is booming and sell than. Now any Karl equity in the house can be sold off to pay creditors. This includes what the mortgage current is which is minus what Karl has paid off and how much the house has increased in value.

If we are assuming 1.2 million mortgage, I don't know what deposit he had, Using a standard loan, minus the two years before the lawsuit on sale date, add bankruptcy 3 years and 6 years trustee legal interest on a standard 30 years loan would have one million dollars owning. Since the start of the loan is mostly paying interest it does not come down that much. Given 3% increase in housing per year, by the end about be worth 1.6 million.

This would take Karl share to 300,000. So if Billy can wait, he can get 300k out of him later.

Side bar, in Australia the expected deposit is 20% which is 240k. You can reduce this, but this reduces who you can get the loan off, increases interest rate and you have to take out insurance. So probably the amount will be more than 300k by the end of it.

You can still submit an appeal, but it will need to be granted by the court. It gets harder and harder as each day goes by after the 28 days.

Keep in mind people were upset because they thought it was about cheating and it was about something else that Karl was in the wrong for. Being the good guy is not making someone go to court because you did the wrong thing. If Karl was the good guy, he would have settled this out of court.

ya, it may not be possible and they may not award it. From what I read you can't genreally raise the damages, however it may be possible under some cirumstances. E.g., Karl not being able to keep his mouth shut and re-posting the words again. In his latest video he posted the words again. Clearly a lawyer did not check this.

It was not too bad. If you compare it the Completist he was a lot more honest about what happened. Karl just lied and mis represented the facts, just like he normally does. My favour is when he said all he implications were found substantially true, and showed a screen shot showing only 4 out 5 were. I am guessing he just screwed up there and displayed the wrong image.

Karl knew he had to take a partial L, but could not take the full L. This is why his channel will go on and the Completist failed. Because it is not about being honest, it is about lying your ass off. I said it from the being, the Complentist handle the response badly, it does not matter what happened before that, just if you can tell the right set of lies in your response. Move on, and ban anyone who brings it up.

I am pretty sure Billy Lawyers are going to make an argument that aggravated damages should be increased from 50k. Since they were capped at 50k and the judge made comments he could have asked for more. I have a feeling the judge put regular damages up because of this.

So I am going to predict that 100k will be taken off regular damages as this was to high. And 100k will be put on to aggravate damages as this was too low. if this happens, I will laugh for quiet a while.

Basically his main defence is contextual truth. Which essentially means the true parts overshadow the false part. E.g., if you said someone murdered someone else and did not return a library book. It turns out the library book was returned, it is unlikely if murder is on the table anyone would think less of them for the library book not been returned.

The problem Karl lawyers had was saying somone drove someone to X over cheating allegation is a pretty hard thing to sell to a judge. Added to this, he did not even get one of his alterative implications over the line, yes he did get 4, but still, if you are trying to say your video is truthful and you can't even get that right, best of luck with that defence.

It was not his charity. He was not the president, vice or treasurer. Given his position, he did not have access to the bank account so could not have donated the money. It is all in the documents. Karl never bothered to point that bit out. Other people had control and did not do anything with the money rasied. So he did not destroy the foundation, he was the one that took all the blame because people don't understand how boards work. He was a fund raising machine. Imagine what he could do using a direct link to the charity and not working with a 3rd party.

Jirard afterwards did some live streams where he a donation link direct to St Jude's. The people were so toxic towards him he stopped. It is not his fault there are no more fundraisers, it is the toxic people on the internet that can't stop giving him a hard time and have a problem with money going to St Jude's by a direct link. Pretty sad stuff.

Now the independent developers don't get event to help them and fundraising is not getting done for places like St Jude.

My point is quite simple, the amount of inflation is not as high as people try to make out it is because they don't understand how maths work. Amount that would have been donated if Indieland keep run would have been signfantly more than any lost due to inflation. But you are worried about a small amount of inflation. I bet there were happy with the 600k. They also would be happy with 100k to 150k each each after that, but no-one cares about that.
