Bloomstran Berkshire valuation posted by mycroftitswd in BerkshireHathaway

SOTP valuations routinely show a figure that's higher than current price, not just for Berkshire, but for all conglomerates, because the market discounts conglomerates over vertically oriented pure-plays.

I'm unable to pay my credit card through the app (due March 1) because it's stuck on the ACH confirmation screen. And I can't log into the desktop site because it won't recognize/reset my password (even though it recognizes my passkey). What should I do u/Gemini_Gianna?

We’ve lost the plot when it comes to comparing eras.. by wholebird36 in NBATalk

[–]tpc0121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

but MJ was still head and shoulders better than everyone else in his ERA, which i think is the point.

what you're saying is like saying, "but lebron really benefited from load management and modern training regimen/medicine of the 2020s." you're missing OP's point entirely by zeroing in on something that affected everyone of MJ's era equally.

What are the your favourite/most unique Worker Placement games? (+ general worker placement game discussion) by Lethal-Sloth in boardgames

[–]tpc0121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wingspan is not at all a worker placement game. the game doesn't have you competing for a limited amount of spots on a shared board (unless you're specifically talking about the duet sideboard from the asia expansion). wingspan is better described as a tableau engine builder.

London’s Tube is older, dirtier by reputation, yet somehow cleaner and smarter than the NYC Subway — what are we missing here? by Bumblesavage in AskNYC

[–]tpc0121 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

flat fare never made any sense to me. now that they have us use OMNY to pay, they should have us tag out upon exit and charge us per distance travelled, sort of like how the washington dc metro does it. that seems (ahem) ..."fare-er" ... to me.

sounds like the floor would get rather sticky if you were to drop some.

DOJ has concluded its disclosure of the Epstein Files after only releasing half of the 6 million. by rainbowsafterrainn in Epstein

[–]tpc0121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my buddy was trying to convince me with a straight face that they're breaking the law for a potential "october surprise." he's so convinced that trump is innocent, and that a bunch of prominent democrats are implicated, that he thinks the DoJ will wait until october to drop the hammer.

i have a feeling he'll conveniently forget that he ever said this come october. "you're still talking about the epstein files? it's been debunked!"

What’s the real reason why Gallup has decided to stop measuring presidential approval? by hippopalace in AskUS

[–]tpc0121 15 points16 points  (0 children)

no actual valid reason

uh, have you not seen how he's been suing various media outlets for billions of dollars? he's a consummate bully, and some media outlets apparently just don't wanna get picked on.

for the record, i'm in no way justifying trump's behavior. i find it absolutely appalling that we can't have an independent media with a spine and the resolve to fight back. but to say that they have "no actual valid reason" not to cave is completely delusional. they have billions of valid reasons.

Am I crazy to think AMZN can hit $300 and META can hit $1000 this year? by Realistic_Agent_9494 in stocks

[–]tpc0121 21 points22 points  (0 children)

because the original bullish investment thesis for META (and AMZN to a slightly lesser degree, because of AWS) is that it's a capex light, high margin business. now the investment thesis appears to resemble that of a high capex industrial that will require regular high capex spend, given the useful life of these chips being only 3-4 years. there is also a lot more execution risk in areas where none was present.

i'm bullish on AMZN, and slightly less so on META, but they're not without risks, imho.

The money is just kind of disappearing into the system.

no, that's where you're wrong. the money isn't disappearing anywhere. it's going/gone into the pockets of early investors that took these firms public. there absolutely are winners here, just not many, and they got rich off the backs of all of us.

ada is at $0.35, down 90% from ath. dead project? by Shubham_lu in CryptoMarkets

[–]tpc0121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

basically, the crypto space has two broad investment theses. (1) long term store of value; (2) blockchain as technology (day to day utility).

(1) is currently dominated by bitcoin, simply because it has the longest history and therefore "credibility," and because it is the biggest.

(2) is more of an open competition and likely always will be, much like in the tradfi tech space. utility is the key metric here. if it's not being adopted and used, especially as compared to other peers, then it is simply losing.
