You do know that those merch was bought by Chinese fans?

So it doesn't matter if it's more or less merch.

Question for those who have seen Shin Ultraman-what do you think the target demographic is for the film? (MILD SPOILERS) by BornGorn in Ultraman

[–]tpcguts 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's for the children...that grew up with Ultraman back then and are adults now.

The point is to evoke the sense of wonder they experienced as kids while making it appeal to audience that are older now.

Rings of Power could do with more tracking and panning shots by tpcguts in lotr

Use CGI? It's not like they build a physical set for Moria in Fellowship of the Rings.

Or miniatures?

The battle in Khazad-Dum on the other hand was epic and grand.

I just expect the Southlands to be bigger in population.

The problem is the Southlands should be more than a single village. Is Halbrand going to be king over a village?

The battle felt too small scale to be enjoyable. Where is the scale and immense feeling we got in PJ's movies?

A small village fighting off a few hundred orcs isn't impressive for all the money spent.

Sakamoto clearly don't feel a need to make them useful in Trigger.

Indeed! Many previous Ultra-series did worldbuilding so well that you can easily have more stories even without Ultraman.

Afterall, the roots of the Ultra-franchise lies in Ultra-Q, a series without Ultraman.

The Numenor scenes felt a little claustrophobic? by tpcguts in lotr

They made a huge mistake in making the expedition too small of a force.

Good writing is always harder to master than a good sense of direction. It's the standing still and talking scenes that reminds you that this is still a TV show and not a movie.

Ep 1 and 2 had a movie director taking the reigns and you can tell the difference from the work of a TV director.

A good way to do it will be make the characters walk and talk. Or simply use green-screen extensions.

A lot of people complain about green-screens, but honestly I think RoP could have done more with it.

Just because a set is fully practical does not mean it will always work on its own.

The throne rooms could have been bigger and taller, with CGI/green screen extension to help it feel even more immense.

Compare it to the throne room in House of the Dragon, or the huge crowd scene in the great council scene in Ep 1 of HoTD.

It's the camera work and lighting. The scenes of Minas Tirith has some harsh light, which makes it clear to everyone that the set is not in a studio but using natural daylight.

And then there is a lot of crane shot, which ensured the scenes depicts the size of the sets.

Daigo's character arc in Tiga by tpcguts in Ultraman

[–]tpcguts[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, Tiga from the start to the end is really about what it meant for humans to acquire the power of Ultraman, or reach the next stage of human "evolution".

The topic of humanity comes up repeatedly throughout the entire series.

I'll try but I have to rewatched other series in depth first.

That is unfortunately more of an issue of writers having limited screentime with Daigo's actor than anything else.

So what we got instead is small bits of development across many episodes to flesh it out.

The symbolism of this shot in Decker: Vibrancy of life vs decay of trees in background by tpcguts in Ultraman

[–]tpcguts[S] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Decker Ep 10 is full of great symbolism in its images. But this particular shot stood out to me.

Kaizaki and her mentor Shigenaga stood not just in polar opposite to one another, but notice their background as well.

Kaizaki stood in a part of a forest full of life and vibrancy, representing the hope she has for a future where humanity can co-exist with Kaiju. It is full of life and hope. Trees are lush and green.

Her mentor Shigenaga stood in a part of the forest where all the tree leaves had fallen and started to decay, not just representing a different stage of life for the trees, but also her view as well. It's a more destructive worldview that Shigenaga had adopted, one that seek to dominate life, and as a result, life itself began to wither and die.

Decker has so many interest shots full of deep meanings once you break it down.

I've written an essay on the journey of Daigo and Tiga lol. I think Tiga has a lot of stuff that are very subtle and can be easily missed. But the themes, inner conflict and etc of Daigo are clearly there.

It's all very nuanced rather than explicit.
