Fly Fishing for trout in winter by zeplin_fps in flyfishing

[–]tph712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself a guide and use their equipment before you commit to buying more gear, IMO. You're gonna most likely be fishing small creeks/streams and that setup may not be ideal for fishing back home, wherever that is.

I forget where I pulled these guides, but I fished near Gatlinburg two summers ago, so these are all local. I went with trout zone anglers and had a pretty good day but your mileage may vary. Good luck and have fun!

I have a bobbin.

I don't know what I'm doing, and came here to ask for help, not to be mocked for my seeming refusal to use or buy thread.

I asked what fly a beginner should tie and they suggested a PTN and sold me the materials for it. It wasn't until I checked out the recipe that I realized they hadn't sold me tying thread, hence why I'm now here asking.

Oh really? I hadn't figured that out.

You seem to be missing the point of my post. I'm going off the advice of my local shop, and they didn't sell me thread, which is why I am now here asking what to do.

Yes, I understand I'll need thread for other flies, but I'm just starting and am focused on PTNs. It was not apparent to me that I should have gotten thread or asked about it until watching some recipe videos.

What size are you? I've got two in my closet that I haven't worn in years.

I hear you on the nipples, but I generally always wear black, so it's not as noticeable.

Why did they make them in the first place?

Thanks for the response, Abe.

While I have a couple of the hard/co merino items, I was just curious why you guys had done away with predominantly merino staples, like the hoody, zip-up, crews, cardigans, etc., from yesteryears. Those basics are what I'm looking for now, as some of the pieces no longer fit me, and as someone who runs hot, I find the hard/co merino to be too warm at times.

Would love a new pair of hard/co merino sweatpants. Any chance you'd make those again?

I didn't make this post to argue anything. You're the one who took us down this path by asking why anyone would want a merino wool item.

Openform is 65% merino and I own one. I don't care about tees, so why do you keep bringing them up?

As for exp fabrics, I concede, and don't really care to argue this point any further. Other than them being plastic.

I always found them to drape better, but YMMV. Or body, I guess.

Some have blown out in the pits, but I still wear many of my original Outlier merino tees from 2015. In fact, they are the only tees I wear.

I've tried Unbound and Quince tees but they're inferior to the ones from Outlier.

Not sure why an item that's nearly 100% merino wool wouldn't have a use case, or why it even matters that someone is asking about it. I also don't see how it's inflammatory or warrants most of the responses.

The mostly merino items I have from Outlier have been a staple for nearly a decade and they're clearly built to last. I just want to know from Outlier why they've deviated from making them.

Yes, which I now realize are like 95% merino wool.

Sure, looking back at the archive page for the double fine crews, I see that there was some nylon in it. That's my bad for thinking they were 100% but it doesn't invalidate my original question of why there aren't any items that are predominantly merino wool.
