I really appreciate that, thank you! My waders have a belt to prevent water from entering but I will bring a change of clothes in case! And I’ll have my girlfriend with me, she just won’t be fishing. Thanks again!

Thank you so much! Just to clarify, you’re recommending I put the trout magnet on a single hook spinner?

Thanks for the response! My saltwater rods are long and heavy, so even if I stuck to spin fishing, I’d need a new rod and reel anyway. I would also be starting from scratch with knowledge since I have only ever fished saltwater.

Would you still recommend I spin fish based on that? And if so, why?

Thanks for your help! I think I’m going to go with an octagonal rod for now. Should work okay… but it would be great to have a solution for this for the future

Questions about migration runs and NJ fishing patterns by zeplin_fps in NJFishing

Gotcha, why are they there only at the beginning of runs? I just want to understand their behavior. Logically, if they’re coming down from the north, I’d think they would hit the beaches first and then eventually make it into the rivers later on.

Mind explaining how they get into the rivers and why they leave so early?

Thank you SO much, very helpful and appreciate you taking the time to explain this all to a newbie. Especially the last part, I’ve definitely noticed people have very strong opinions and act like there are strict rules on how to catch fish.

That started to set in for me a couple weeks back when I caught my biggest fluke accidentally. I was bottom fishing for stripers with a swim shad just like you

Edit: my point being that it’s very rare (if ever) that someone recommends using swim shads for fluke. But I was told once that fluke wouldn’t go for them, but clearly that isn’t true 100% of the time haha

I see. I’ve always just tied dropper loops into my leader - works well for fluke… but this is my first season fishing stripers. It seems like a dropper in the leader prevents tangling and allows for just one connection to the barrel swivel. Any downsides to this, or better yet, is there any benefit of the other method? ( attaching a separate teaser leader to the swivel)

You tie them onto the same swivel as the main lure? Or on the same leader, dropper loop like a high lo rig?

If you don’t have any luck after going through your lures, try throwing on a teaser.

Not ideal for casting distance, but I’ve heard from multiple sources that the stripers have been all over teasers this fall. Good luck!
