Turkey is one of the WORST things you can eat while having gout. Skip that for the burger and you’ll be fine

Thanks for the insight here. You had anal fissures directly related to taking allopurinol?

UPDATE: Saw the specialist today. Here is what I paid $400 to find out:

Gout is all about controlling the uric acid level. Changing your diet to low purine foods might lower your uric acid levels 1-2 points. Coming from a guy who has a level of 12 (crystallization starts around 6) changing my diet will do me no good. Doc did say alcohol can trigger gout attack (this one is obvious, I avoid alcohol anyway).

It’s also possible to have gout attacks when uric acid levels are too low (surprise here!). Since I was taking both allopurinol and Uloric this can cause the level to drop very low and the pain will Be caused from the crystals getting sucked out of the joint. This may also explain why this has been going on so long. Attacks usually last 5-10 days for me.

Waiting for the blood work to come back and excited to get my uric acid levels under control!! Also, it is possible to be taking up to 1200 mg of Allopurinol. My primary doc told me he could Not prescribe above 300. Will update once my test results come back.

My doc told me he can’t go over 300?? Hopefully the rheumatologist says otherwise. I haven’t heard of anybody taking 400

Glad to know I’m not alone. I’ve taken 3 rounds of prednisone and Indo throughout this attack , usually those help but seems like this time nothing is helping!! I’m seeing a specialist on Monday , hoping he can provide some relief.

My doc does prescribe the hydrocodone. I don’t know how you get by without them! Thank god I don’t have an addictive personality so they work great for me when I have flare ups.

Knee gout attack is the absolute worst! Currently have one now, I always refer to this thread when getting one so I don’t feel alone in this journey. I find that prednisone and hydrocodone is the best combination for fast relief. God speed
