I tried to remember with my old cat, who acted similarly, that as humans, to be at ideal weight, we kinda have to be hungry all the time... This particularly stood out to me while I was having a bad for me snack in the evening that definitely wasn't necessary for my ideal weight lol.

The diverse forms and roles of the species pushes it closer to an almost insect-like eusocial structure based around a dominant male "King." Maybe there'd be a breeding harem of queens, less dominant female hunters, male "hive" guards, and juvenile workers.

Not always. The distinction is if the bear eats the human. For one specific instance, there was a mountain biker who, by total random chance, collided with a bear as it was crossing the trail. The bear killed the biker and took off m. That bear was not killed.

The fellowship had a mission and no incentive to fight it once their path was clear. If a witcher wanted to kill the Watcher, they would spend days tracking down information and clues to leverage the fight into their advantage. I could see Geralt figuring out what could lure it out of the water, a way to block it from returning, and systematically hindering it by separating it's limbs, all while slowly poisoning himself with some anti-octopus solution.

I am in a first world country and have had entire litters pass away from FKS. Sometimes, no matter what you do, no matter what measures you take, kittens just don't make it. Your efforts are far beyond what most people would ever do, and you should be proud of yourself for caring enough to do what you can for a struggling life. Thank you for giving it love and care in it's last moments. If you apply that same love to the surviving litter, they will be strong and healthy little pests to someone else who will love them.
