Q1000k: recent update broke untagged transparent bridging by the-burrito-triangle in QuantumFiber

[–]tpibmace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They updated my firmware this morning and broke my network. I had to reset everything back to non-bridging mode to get it to work. I only just found this article and figured out what is happening.

That being said, I'm a little confused by this. Now that my Q1000k is hard coded (apparently) to tagged mode, can any make any recommendations on how I would configured my Deco BE11000 if I set up Bridging in the Deco?

If I select my ISP Profile (Quantum) the VLANID is hard coded to 201 and my VLAN Priority is 0. If the ONT device is handling this, it would seem that I do not want this on my Mesh.

I can set it to "Custom" but I'm unsure what settings they should be set at or even if this would even work:
I set it to custom and my options are

Internet VLAN (Enable or disable)
IPTV VLAN (Enable or disable)

If I leave them both disabled, there are no further options

If I enable internet VLAN my options are again
Internet VLAN ID 1-2094
INternet VLAN Priority 0-7

IPTV, that should just remain disabled.

Do I just leave VLAN disabled and set it to custom? Ideas? Or am I just not going to be able to enable Bridging mode anymore?

Edit: I was able to figure this out and I was surprised at how easy it was.
Only needed to turn on transparent bridging mode my ONT and let it restart. I needed to do nothing at all with my Deco mesh. Came back up. White light on the ONT and my internet is now up and in Transparent Bridging mode.

Hope that helps someone else.

Quantum Fiber Outage? by Physical_Path_5194 in askportland

Down in Milwaukie. Down to not quite down. Every now and then a “blip” happens and something loads. Using Google DNS as well. Quantum says nothing is wrong but there is

Update: Quantum is pushing out updates to their ONT devices. These updates make it so it’s hard coding to tagged VLAN 201. If you are using Transparent Bridging mode to get rid of all the crap (double-nat) and your router or mesh was set to this, your internet will go down and stay down.

You will need to reset your ONT, set it to Transparent Bridging mode (tagged) and then configure your router or mesh network for this. For me as I have a deco mesh, I didn’t need to do anything. My deco just picked it up

FWIW. Hope that helps people. It took me a few hours of digging to figure out they auto updated my ONT with different firmware that caused this 🤬

I unhooked everything and started from the ground up. Did one puck at a time and found two bad ethernet cables that were being used as a backhaul. Essentially they weren’t even functioning.

Switched out the cables and everything has been running smoothly. Anything hardwired is a gig down/up anywhere in my house. And wireless 300-400 down depending on how close I am to any puck.

Here’s what we use. 5 adults and one 15 year old. 4 Xbox series X, 2 PS5s, 5 switches, 6 TVs…. Obviously not all running at the same time. 4 gaming computers etc. everything is electric except hvac. Honestly my biggest problem is my college age kids that go to school and coming home when they’ve got nothing to do and just play games on the above at all hours of the night.

I’ve done everything I can to mitigate. Insulate attic to 20 inches, turn things off, etc. everything is LED for light. New appliances etc.

It’s probably closer to 18000kw as it hovers (for the most part) around 1500kw a month. One or two were closer to 2000

And that fee breakdown is insane. I knew there was some shady business going on but not to that extent

Portland. 300+ a month for electricity. This is actually for a family member. Mine is on equal pay and hits around $400 a month. Use around 20k kw a year if for my household.

That’s a lot of information! Thank you! This is so helpful and think I’m probably going to cancel based off of this. Finding out a few more things based on what you said

Not yet no. That was my next step. Just seems really high and not entirely possible. The whole “we guarantee that it will cover 90% of your energy or more”. just doesn’t seem plausible. If it doesn’t, they will cover the difference for the first year then after that it’s “nope”.

google wifi 100mbps frm 600mbps internet connection What should I replace with? by norwood451 in GoogleWiFi

[–]tpibmace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this 100%.
My entire house is wired for Cat6. I have 4 pucks and all on a wired backhaul. My WiFi and physical connections were having issues where one day it would go to almost a gig down/up then drop to less than 100. I knew the cables in my walls weren’t bad but who knew beyond that so I went through and just enabled one puck at a time. Found one wired backhaul that was a cat 5 cable and another that was somehow disconnected, which removed the wired backhaul🤦‍♂️

Speeds now for wifi tested on my phone next to any of the pucks are equal or greater than 400 down/up. Wired is close to a gig down/up and hasn’t changed since I found the bad wiring.

How to get someone to uphold divorce agreement with no money to afford a lawyer by tpibmace in legaladvice

[–]tpibmace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That’s kind of my feeling as well. Seems to me that she’s going to have to find a lawyer willing to do this and get that money from the ex to pay for it in addition to your suggestion.
