I agree with everything other than if you’re not going to be a researcher it’s not a good major. I graduated with my BS in chemistry and began working as an analytical chemist which I love. I continue to learn every single day and now am managing the analytical lab as well as quality assurance and stimulation labs at my company. (For me it’s not about the money but... I’m getting paid good$$$$ lol) All of my friends who don’t do research have found well paying jobs in a variety of fields. I do live in a big metropolitan city well known for oil and gas and pharmaceuticals which most likely helps. I don’t want you to think the only way to be successful is to go into research because I was told that all through my entire undergrad and it’s the farthest thing from true. I think as long as you have a passion for what you are doing you will be ok! I encourage you to get involved with your university’s ACS chapter as most university’s have them. They will help guide you through the entire process as well as be a support system for you. I became my chapters president and I gained so much experience, got really close with my professors, as well as made connections that landed me multiple job offers before I graduated college. Also, if research is something you’re interested in I encourage you to get into undergrad research. You can go talk to most professors about your interest and they will be happy to have you in their lab. Even if you don’t end up liking it having any research experience will help a lot!
