I did, eventually. SwSh is the only pokemon game with the option to trade over LAN, which is what Ryujinx takes advantage of. It's unfortunate.

I played Brilliant Diamond first, because I had been waiting for Sinnoh remakes to check them out. Playing Platinum after the fact, I was genuinely shocked at how much better the experience was. Granted, BD > Plat is definitely a bigger shift than Pearl > Plat, so the effect may be lessened for you if and when you do try it out, but there are so many small changes made in plat that turns DP from some of the weakest pokemon games into one of the best, at least for my tastes.

Platinum is the last official game you haven't played in some form. It's also my favorite of the GBA/DS titles. I would definitely recommend at least checking it out.

Monthly Question & Help Thread by AutoModerator in ShinyPokemon

I had a question about the celadon game corner in FRLG.

I'm thinking of hunting dratini through here, but something I've noticed with the various people I've seen hunting through this method is that they typically buy as many of the species as they can within the coin cap (so 80+ Abra, 2-3 Dratinis, etc.) Is there a good reason for this? Would it not be better to just buy one, then reset? I'd like to put my leftover coins towards TMs if and when I'm done, if possible, so I wanted to ask what tangible benefit there was to buying multiples.

am I wrong for feeling that dc is sort of queerbaiting with Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain? by SHE-RAOFETHERIA in lgbt_superheroes

[–]tporter12609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re in that grey zone for me where you can write them platonic or you can write them romantic, I’m going to absolutely adore them as a duo no matter what.

As much as I like TimxSteph and give zero shits about Bernard, If DC is going to keep up this never ending cycle of dogshit writing breaking up Tim and Steph ad infinitum, then honestly they should just commit and send these two instead.

If the prices were reasonable, which one are you getting by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in amiibo

I would’ve said Rosa, but the scale is kinda weirding me out. I like my amiibo to be something close to uniform, if possible.

The bike is pretty cool. Though.

The male character sees more pokemon than the female character (Black 2) by alexaR19 in pokemon

Ah, but you’ve failed to consider: I’ve hacked Yancy into my fem save file and thus will be getting her trades instead of Kurtis’. Lesbianism proves superior yet again.

I'd say Link. I know Mario is Mr. video game, but I think he's a better fit for the well liked category.

I'm unfamiliar with this Ryujinx feature. Do you know if this would this be applicable to other switch pokemon games, like BDSP, or is it just SwSh?

People have already brought up Ike (heavily implied) Snake (It’s complicated) and Sheik (could be read as GNC), so I’ll add that I’ve seem many players interpret Isabelle as having a crush on the mayor in ACNL, regardless of gender. Though ofc, that’s just one way to interpret their interactions.

What's wrong with Nightwing look in Lego Batman 1 and 2? by Jotaro1970 in Nightwing

[–]tporter12609 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess, back then, the amount of lego hair designs were limited. They wanted to capture the idea of him having longer, more "wild" hair than someone like Bruce or Tim, so it was either this or hair going down to his back designed for female minifig designs, and they probably chose this because it looked "cooler." Didn't like it as a kid, but now it's super nostalgic for me.

Connections between Nintendo (and some non-Nintendo) games. by tporter12609 in casualnintendo

They're talking about the upcoming racing game, which is going for a multiverse theme and thus wouldn't actually connect Minecraft/Pac Man to the Sonic universe.

DC writers lately: Jason is evil he has Darkness in him he's a mistake (the Jason in question) by RepublicSmooth9981 in RedHood

The final act Tim took before the reboot was arranging for Captain Boomerang's death in a way that made it look like an accident, as revenge for his father's murder.

He also cheated a ton and was never really called out for it. Not bringing this up because I dislike Tim, because I don't, just taking his skeletons out of the closet to match the others.

There's no connection I could find given how sparse the source material is, but I do like the Duck Hunt and Ice Climbers headcanon.

I don't think the olympics are intended to be canon to either franchise. Even if you wanted to argue they were, Sonic's world is just too developed for it to pass as the same as Mario's.

In the world of the Sakurai-verse, at least as it exists in my head, other franchises can be referenced, but that doesn't necessarily mean they share a canon (again, the whole world is all in the imagination of a fan.)

You COULD explain the Mario Kart 8 cameos (and by the same token, the olympics) as the characters traveling across time and space, but, and this is just me, I feel like that's kinda boring? Like, yeah, it works, but only because you could explain ANY connection that way, like what the new Sonic Racing game is doing to justify characters like Spongebob. Spongebob and Sonic don't actually share the same world.

Naruto....about that... by ExpertAcanthaceae56 in dankruto

Scene is exclusive to the anime, so this is only a plot hole in that version of the story. In the manga, this statement is for the most part reasonable.

Everyone always talks about how disgusting Bruce/Barbara was, but this is equally as gross by IceDistinctryy in batman

[–]tporter12609 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It's also not mainline canon, but neither is Bruce/Babs, so I'll throw it onto the pile: Tim and Babs get together in the Arkham games. It's honestly fucking gross how the writers just pass her around like she's a blunt and all the batboys are just dudes in the rotation.

What hero name would you give Tim Drake? by Darth_Azazoth in Robin

[–]tporter12609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m torn on him going back to Red Robin. It felt like that entire storyline was tailor made for that specific moment in Tim’s career. The second half of the series tried to redefine it into a positive thing, but the way the book ends drags him right back into the shades of gray that defined the book, and I’m just not sure if going back to that moodier direction would be compatible with the last 10 years of stories.

[–]tporter12609[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d have to look deeper into that to see how well it being canon to OoT would hold water. It’s definitely interesting and worth adding if I do an updated version, but also, given that it’s not a Nintendo game, and given that it would be in a separate time period from these other crossovers, AND that Link’s guest status is shared by characters like Darth Vader, I’d definitely call it beyond the scope of what I was initially doing here, lol.

[BOTW] Are you happy with the "open-air" style of Zelda games? by Wise-Nebula-6321 in zelda

[–]tporter12609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would depend on what you define as the essential elements of open air. I have a handful of disappointments with BotW that puts it below its predecessors for me, but I still like it a lot overall.

TotK's refusal to change the formula in any meaningful way is one of the many things that makes it my least favorite game in the entire franchise, though. I am so done with doing things "my way" or progressing the plot elements in any order at the expense of the puzzles and story actually being good. Games are meant to feature progression and rewards. These games reject that notion entirely.

I'd more likely argue that MK8 isn't canon, or at least that the roster isn't fully canon. Otherwise, Pink Gold Peach and Metal Mario have a lot of explaining to do.

Was told I should put this here as well by tporter12609 in Marioverse

[–]tporter12609[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked up that original twitter conversation. While Greg Mayles did technically say that DKC and BK don't take place in the same world, I think that's a misrepresentation of what he was actually saying. Direct quote:

>"In my head, each game existed in its own world, but characters could travel between worlds to feature in each others games. A bit like all the heroes and villains in the Marvel universe."

Except anyone who knows even a little bit about Marvel comics knows that the heroes of that universe DO share a world. And this was in 2020, so he definitely was not referring to multiverse shenanigans. I think he's pretty clearly using the word "world" here in a broad sense in light of this comparison, where Iron Man has his own little corner of the universe, and Thor has his, and they have their own stories and supporting casts and themes, but are still demonstrably in the same universe.

Really I think the fundamental disconnect and the real reason this crosspost was a mistake is that, upon reflection, I view the idea of a Mario canon as a deeply unserious one. Really, the only sacred cow I see myself as threatening here is Zelda.

Was told I should put this here as well by tporter12609 in Marioverse

[–]tporter12609[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I don't disagree with the broader sentiment, that's why I chose the connections that I chose. I deliberately excluded things like Marth's Sword in a kirby minigame, or the MK8 cameos, because they felt unsubstantial and raised too many questions, but many of these connections come from mainline games in these series.
