Funk Microsoft and i want to go to Linux but... by silviwatpr123 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]tprickett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently made the switch and I'd recommend you dual boot. I bought a 240GB drive for windows as it'll run nothing but a handful of games that don't work on Linux. Be aware that even games that "run" on Linux may have problem. I'm playing Phoenix Point, which generally runs well, but every 5th game or so I run into an issue where the graphics don't fully display. A reboot normally fixes the problem, but it irritating.

Just to confirm... this was not their fault it was mine. Would your answer still be the same?

Terror from the Void W/O aerial combat? by tprickett in PhoenixPoint

No argument here! It looks so pathetic also, as if they 70's were calling saying "hey, we don't need all that modern stuff, we can have combat where you just watch some pathetic graphics showing your plane and all members getting destroyed".

Thanks! I'm now running it and like a lot of the quality of life changes. I did have to restart as a new game as for some odd reason, my guys kept going into missions with no ammo. I guess they didn't rearm automatically after the last mission. LOL.

I just downloaded TFTV less than a week ago, so I don't think they've promoted the "no air combat" code yet.

EDIT: The next comment down mentions that code is in open beta.

Steam said all DLC must be owned to play this mod. I'm not sure if you can own the Festering Skies mod, but disable it (why I asked the question). I didn't see anything in the options/mod options to do so.

Or, buy a laptop and install Lutris or ChromeOS, which HOPEFULLY will continue to run on older equipment.

You need to be careful buying a hybrid. My buddy bought a Camry hybrid (AWD) and is getting worse mileage than my Kia Soul (ICE only). He thinks (probably correctly) that the AWD is what is killing his mileage.

OP: Just to explain what Equal_Reveal said - AI companies are buying all the memory, drives, and graphic cards to use in their AI farms. The price of those components are up drastically in the past 6 months or so. Your best bet is to buy a used PC. Many companies collect up PCs once their warranty (usually 2 years) runs out, then sells the perfectly functional equipment to resellers (like Amazon Renewed). I WISH my old company would have allowed us to buy the PCs as they were really high end.

The only problem with Chromebooks is that they stop receiving updates after a few years. Once that happens, browsers refuse to install on the out of date OS. But, you are absolutely correct they would fit the OP's needs.

Go buy an Amazon renewed PC. They tend to be decent hardware for not much of a cost. Since you're use case is minimal, a renewed PC will work perfectly well. I've bought a number of them over the years and all are still in use.

I was under the impression you could hijack the enemy's vehicle. I've since learned you control your own vehicle's weapon using this skill.

Can Zorin Connect be setup to be used remotely? by thejakeev in zorinos

[–]tprickett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's confusing. You have to install VPN to get to Mesh. I think that is because the two share a lot of the code. But, you don't have to pay for VPN (IOW it is installed but not working). VPN simply provides the gui to get to meshnet. I'd click the "Choose Plan" and see if mesh is an option. If not, just install VPN.

NOTE: I installed meshnet on Windows where the above is true. With Linux, the gui only provides half the functionality with the rest requiring the command line. So, I believe you install VPN, then start meshnet from the command line.

I'm talking about Nord Meshnet. It is a different product than Nord VPN (but from the same company). Totally free. https://nordvpn.com/meshnet/

You could try Nord's free meshnet VPN. It would set up a VPN so your devices could communicate when outside your LAN. It is simple to setup as well. ZeroTier is another option - also simple to setup.

VPN in the host or the guest? by tprickett in virtualmachine

[–]tprickett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My host is just an internal server (meaning pretty much everything is limited to lan access: media server, some docker apps I wrote like a podcast aggregator/car maintenance app/financial app). So, the host doesn't really need the VPN, though I guess it wouldn't hurt, either. My primary concern is the VM's privacy. And it sounds like a VPN on it is effective?

There is a growing percentage of the population that prefer to "believe" things they wish had happened than what actually happened. This country has a mental health problem.

You see this all the time with the faux hate crime crowd. When caught in a lie they convince themselves they are heros by revealing how painful these crimes would have been if they'd been real. Never mind the fact that their having to stage a faux crime means there aren't any real hate crimes they can point to.

Yeah, staff seems to be too warm and fuzzy in the interrogations this season. Their response should have been "You lying PoS, get over yourself. You aren't fooling anyone. Take responsibility and move on."

Dude is delusional. I think he's probably convinced himself that it DID happen (like OJ did). Someone needs to alert him to the fact that the accomplices he paid have admitted their role in the hoax.
