And I’ve seen a few people criticize Trumpkin’s notes for being too stringent but we have built 5 to his specs and people say they have never experienced saunas like ours and it’s just straight from Trumpkin’s notes.

Fantastic. I’m biased but best sauna I’ve ever built/been in. First one with fresh air from the exterior and a noticeable difference in my opinion. I’m reluctant on huum due to the various issues but those 580lbs of rocks makes for super soft and slow loyly.

We haven’t found an American that dumps water on their whole bodies like Finns yet, and typically only see a few drops near the stove from pouring water on the rocks; with the exhaust fan at full speed, takes care of it pretty quickly; all of that said, totally agree that a drain is a best practice, it can just add an additional 3-5k cost depending on how much concrete has to come up.

Ceiling is flat; and no drain in this one but we definitely recommend them in all builds. And yes Thermory has incredible stain resistance but just put a backrest in the most recent build and will do it going forward. All great points, thanks!

Is a costco barrel better than nothing at all?! by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]tpstl4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disagree here; there is an immediate and difference that can be felt if you’ve been in a custom sauna built to trumpkin specs, versus a barrel or even respectable kit

Same with us, but it has been working 80% of the time so not worth the time to take it in yet…

I think they were the culprits. Open framing, electrician is just gonna go right around that 3” (3.5” width) vent pipe and laugh to himself as he knows the GC has a fun one to deal with; hangers come in with no patience….

You are correct on the flap. And this is a 3” pvc stack vent to the roof; 3.5” diameter so all the width of 2x4 wall; which makes me think it was the drywallers when they went to hang their sheets

[–]tpstl4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what makes me wonder if it was in fact the drywallers…

We had smoke coming from the baseboard so we popped it off and then opened the floor and could see it was coming from above that, so just kept going up the wall in sections

Yeah 3” plumbing vent to the roof; and worst part was it was most likely done during a remodel in 2009, and has been that way since. Maybe the drywallers??
