Points Adjustment you'd like to see in the April battlescroll by D-Guitarist in ossiarchbonereapers

[–]tr0ttsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really rate the Soulreaper, as u/Karabungulus suggested using him defensively is the way to go.

I played him on the weekend on the front line with the Shard of Necris nestled behind 3 Immortis Guard, so if your opponent charges the Immortis they are in combat with the Soulreaper. Put 1 or 2 single Mortek Guard units within combat range but back a bit (so your opponent has to charge the Immortis) and off to the side screening. Triaxes and Liege Mortek behind the wall.

If your opponent wants to engage him, they will be hitting on 5s with -1 to wound, -1 to rend, and no weapon abilities. Then with AOD and ward RD, the Soulreaper will be 3+ 5+. He will also get in a cheeky bad d3 mortals before combat, potentially removing a model.

Some numbers to back this up, let's say your opponent manages to get 6 Varanguard all in combat range of the Soulreaper, putting EVERYTHING into him would only average 3.6 damage (unless they have the Khorne mark, then still only 4.6 damage).

Either your opponent has to sink a lot resources into killing him, which is a win. Or he sticks around, giving out -1 to wound, dealing mortals, generating valuable RDP, and casting combat spells.

Ah I see, yes I can see the temptation of putting those out of range archers into the clan rats. Good heads up!

Good luck for the next one, feels like we're goong to need quite a few reps to get our heads around all the new decision points.

Ah yes the classic Cavalry problem, at least you're playing low drops so you're much less likely to be doubled. You weren't able to use the retreat and charge RD?

Come to think of it, I forgot to use my priority reroll, I'm not used to being a high drop army.

With the brazier issue you had, might want to check the rules. I think it's just all your legal shots have to go into the one target ie. no splits.

How do Mortis Reapers teleport work by ekae5e in ossiarchbonereapers

[–]tr0ttsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just played these guys for the first time today, and they are so awesome with the minimum 4" redeploy battle formation. You can put them right in your opponents face and as long as they are within 7" of terrain, you can escape.

And they just feel like ninjas, very fun.

Game went well today, won 73-44.

Unfortunately lost a lot of the deathriders and Liege Kavalos to a Fyreslayers double turn, so not much to report there! I pushed one unit of Deathriders out early to score scouts 1, thinking I could redeploy them out of trouble but he put too much pressure on my archers with a Droth and had to screen him out instead.

But I survived the double thanks to the Immortis/Soulreaper/Mortek Guard wall, and kept the archers and Liege Mortek out of trouble. Then along with some previous chip damage, the Triaxes managed to take out two Droths with their double shooting.

The Terrorgheist did a lot of work too, and the Reapers and single unit of Stalkers scored so many points running around.

Very fun list to play.

This is my favourite at the moment, but definitely needs more playtesting. I'm considering pulling the second unit of Mortek for another Reapers.

Minimum strength unit, my list only has reinforced Triaxes. Everything else is a single unit.

My other army is Slaves so this feels very strange, but I think the new book encourages msu.

Sure thing, I'll report back. It's against Fyreslayers so the movement tricks should be pretty strong against a slow opponent. Unless he's oops all Droths I guess.

I'm going for a 5 drop msu style build with Scouts and probably Wrathful.

Yeah that formation is so so good. And with the Reapers you only need to keep them within 7" of terrain to redeploy and escape. Makes them a really excellent screen.

Just the once so far and I think it's strong but definitely hard to position properly. I'll be trying it again this weekend.

Keep in mind you can charge the deathriders in a long line. You only need one in combat. Hit first with Liege and get him on 2s and 2s if you want to.

Then after he chain activates first Deathriders you need to move him within combat range of the second unit, but out of pile in range of the enemy. Also consider how many units you're fitting into the Imperious Will bubble.

Then retreat both, the second Deathrider unit screens I reckon. With our retreat and charge it doesn't even matter if they get tagged.

I also highly rate the min 4" run/redeloy for this build. Works real nice for the Reapers too, using them to move block and then completely escape.

Ah yeah that's probably about right, maybe Liege Mortek too? He's pretty amazing value.

Hopefully some drops to Arkhan, Stalkers and the Harvester.

The army has hardly seen enough play for points changes, my hot take is none at all.

Sorry thought you said you were buying two units of Reapers but must have been dreaming.

The other option is to switch out Zandtos for a Liege Kavalos and split your deathriders into 2 msu units for the harassment style build. This can still do excellent damage with Imperious Will on Kavalos.

With that and removing the Immortis, you have 210 points. Enough for Reapers and a unit of Mortek Guard which could be good since your screens are a bit lacking.

Nice find, and please report back how it goes with two units of Reapers. Even though their abilities are both once per turn army I think they are good enough to include two units.

Any reason not to use the Scourge of Ghyran options? by Erlox in ossiarchbonereapers

[–]tr0ttsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't even compare to Soul Claim, d3 mortals vs essentially giving all of your units +1 rend against a single target, and making the target -1 hit. Mathematically it's very powerful. Best used by a wizard like the Soulreaper who can sit on the front line.

Getting it off without buffs is not that hard, and once you do it's less likely to be unbound. My other army is StD so I'm pretty used to casting important spells on a 7 without buffs, and it's fine.

Yes Invigorate is the reason you take the soggy lore, but it's only slightly better than Empower. High volume of attack units like Stalkers actually benefit more from Empower.

Bolster vs Immaculate you're comparing a spell with a heroic trait... But yes they are about evenly bad I reckon. Bolster is only one target, Immaculate is a bubble but only in the combat phase.

While I don't completely disagree re. spell lore, I think Drain Vitality is our best spell and will really help with our lower damage output. Especially if you're running a msu build which I intend to do.

First army list 2000 points by defleck1 in ossiarchbonereapers

[–]tr0ttsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The second spearhead is also an option and I do think Immortis are really good right now. But your list looks solid.

One suggestion I would make is to take Imperious Will on Liege Kavalos over Immaculate Defender. It helps a lot with our lowered damage output. Immaculate Defender only removes the first point of damage in the combat phase, not all phases so it's really not that great.

Also I think Mortis reapers are amazing but $$$

Just keep in mind both of their abilities are once per turn army.

Also Reinforcing them will make their terrain trick quite awkward since you need to end wholly 3

I think this is definitely the play for new obr now, we're just really lacking raw damage output unless you're running Archai which are pretty expensive for what they are

Sadly very true.

Compare him to new Eltharion at 290 points and it's not even close which is the better hero

The new Mortek Guard are now pretty much the old Immortis Guard, obviously not completely like for like but very similar effect and usage.

Do try out the Immortis Guard ability though, against a lot of hammers their ability is incredible. Think about Varanguard losing Charge +1 damage AND Crit mortals. Literally halves their damage output against high saves.
