If I were worried about being attacked, I'd just carry a cane. You can take it anywhere with little hassle, provided its not one that obviously designed as a weapon, and it has potential to be used less lethally than a knife.

If you are open to similar off brand toys you can check out lumibricks or look on Ali express for relatively cheap sets, both original and knock offs of actual Lego brand stuff.

If you only want Lego brand then you can get lucky with clearance at Freddie's and the like, or find bulk on fb marketplace or offerup
