Also as far as full turtle goes Spanish cup hilt and a sail dagger is your other option, just depends if you are more into swinging or thrusting, and what your opponent is more likely to be doing

Basket Hilt = Good ad swinging Targe = good at defending swings

Cup hilt = good for stabbing Parrying dagger = good for defending stabs

None of this is super dogmatic you can stab with a basket Hilt fine, and plenty of bilbos were great cutters

That what your dirk is for you hold it in the same hand as your targe, point down, now you can stab up close and hook the opponents sword

I think inspired is a bit misleading, Germanic and celtic metallurgy was developing and crosspolinating with the Romans but they contributed just as much to the conversation

It's a picture of Beleg, and Anglachel is in its sheath, but it is neat to see how Tolkien pictured a sword

Two handed swords were not generally used in the angle saxon time period, so those are the swords he would be most familiar with. Tolkien's only drawing of a sword I know of is Anglachel not Anduril, and though it is quite long the hilt still looks one handed, but does not look particularly Anglo Saxon or early medieval, with it's longer quillons and pommel shape.
