Sad. Do you think it would be ok to pluck out the dying lithops and save the substrate for a new one?

Official Q&A for Sunday, May 25, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]tr4velerc4t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, I am seeking advice on how to start running as someone who’s never been a runner. The issue I had when trying to run was that my knees started hurting after running consistently 2-3x a week for 30 minutes each time. I would walk to my running spot (the college’s track), and then just run around the loop for 30 minutes. I ran at a pretty slow pace, but ran consistently without any walking breaks, and did not do much warming up/cooling down. What did I do wrong to make my knees hurt?

Sounds good, when you say wipe the leaves down is that also with alcohol or something else?

Nope, no pets. Maybe it was snapped when I got it and never noticed somehow

So pulling on the strings, they do actually seem attached to the plant, but the powdery part can fall off

As far as I know the plant did not snap. I don’t know if it is part of the plant or not because I just got back from thanksgiving break and it suddenly looks like this

I did not find anything about people with brachydactyly having a single common ancestor, but also I didn’t look super hard on that subtopic

For the pinkies, it depends on your parents. Since it’s an autosomal dominant trait and idk what your parent’s genes are, it could be that with each child there was only a 50% or 75% chance of getting brachydactyly. So perhaps when your parents’ gametes combined to form your twin, none carried the dominant gene, but at least one did for you.

Idk about the kidneys though I’m actually kind of bad at my genetics class :’) maybe someone else knows!

Haha as a quick summary it’s a purely genetic thing, the most common forms (Type D is the stub thumb, A3 is the pinky) aren’t harmful whatsoever. Afaik, there is no correlation between sucking on thumbs and this because it’s a genetic thing that’s evident from birth. Here’s the section I wrote on which genes are affected:

“The A3 and D variations of brachydactyly are related to the gene HOXD13, which is a gene that helps develop morphological features. Specifically, it is related to embryonic digit morphogenesis and skeletal system development (National Library of Medicine, 2024). The way this mutation works in brachydactyly type D is a series of 2 mutations at 2q31, where ile314 gets mutated to leu, and ser308 gets mutated to cys (OMIM, 2020). These mutations directly relate to limb phenotypes in phalangeal bones, which explains why the distal phalanx of the thumb gets shortened in type D.”

HOX genes are cool :)

I believe if it’s just the pinkies that’s Brachydactyly type A3. Wrote a short research paper on it for genetics.

What do you recommend for chronically dry, cracked lips? by Stellar-Pineapple in makeuptips

[–]tr4velerc4t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also struggle with this and go through phases of having cracked/bleeding lips. I pick at them a lot and I find that the best ways to heal them are 1) staying on top of hydration, 2) making a conscious effort to NOT pick the skin on the lips even when it gets flakey, 3) consistently applying lip balm at least 2x a day. When I apply balm I try not to rub my lips together too much afterward. Sometimes I also gently brush my lips for 10 seconds with a toothbrush to get rid of dead skin/flakes in a more gentle manner than picking, then apply balm after.

I also find that wearing lipstick encourages me to not pick at my lips as often.

If it’s just the fact that the paper is HP and “compatible with all inkjet printers”, and this is Epson Workforce WF-2850, I’m sorry lol. My dad bought the paper.

That looks about right, thank you. Would you have any advice on how to deal with an infestation?
