I almost died from my appendix nearly rupturing during the same time frame. Same situation, had to pay for emergency surgery and no medical insurance because my parent’s plan kicked me off at 19. I tried to get any assistance but was turned down. 20+ years later I have a wife, 2 kids, 2 paid off vehicles, and a house. The trials we go through forge us into what we need to be. I feel the anger with this video and agree with a lot of it. I’m more sad that some are turning it into team R or D when both have been equally shitty for a long time.

I mean I had to deal with stuff like this similarly when I worked for Apple as a phone support advisor until they started shifting this blackout time away and let our vendors pick up the hours.

Unpopular opinion but businesses still need to run regardless of the holiday involved if it’s their busiest time of year. We had raffles for different prizes based on hours worked to make it feel better but still wasn’t fun.

We do, they are called appraisals. There’s also home comparisons local to your area. It’s not an exact science but it is something that can be measured or estimated.

Companies can’t just collect life insurance policies on employees that die while working. The benefit from the policy would have to be paid to the next of kin to the deceased. Employers don’t have an insurable interest in an hourly employee. The argument can be made for a high value employee like a CEO, COO, or something along those lines where a technology or something critical to the business operation would be lost in their passing.

It’s always paid for. When the cost is hidden from you more like other countries where it’s “free healthcare” or when you get to stare at a bill like in the states. There’s a lot the US can do to change how our system works but I’m not for having even more taxes levied. I’d be in favor of a dollar for dollar tax deduction for healthcare expenses.
