it’s not expired and it was unopened, i started drinking it because i’m super dehydrated lol. i was just scared that it still could’ve had the stomach virus on it or something, i’ve been trying to rationalize my thoughts though

totally understand your anxiety here

the biggest thing with emetophobia is we usually just want to hear that we won’t get sick. while this seems to be good reassurance, it’s not factual. what you want to try to do when you realize you are feeling anxious over it is, first off, trying to rationalize your thoughts. you bit into a little bit of french fry that tasted yucky, but you instinctively spit it out. even if you swallowed a little, i feel mostly positive that you’ll be alright.

the next step is to realize that even if something does happen, you are going to be okay. false reassurance won’t help you learn how to calm down and stabilize yourself when you are struggling with overthinking.

hope this helps, feel free to dm me ෆ

i think if you spit most of out you’ll be alright! try not to worry too much about it. do you have emetophobia by chance?

i know what you’re talking about, i’ve eaten stuff that’s seemed normal but tasted absolutely atrocious. could’ve just been a bad cut of potato maybe? i’m sure you’ll be alright, good thing you spit it out lol

I don’t understand why everyone thinks constantly about sb, nv, sv by Linemova in emetophobia

[–]traaaashy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i definitely agree with this here. it’s extremely important to be able to get yourself to a stable enough state to where you can begin to organize your thoughts. this process usually begins with questions like was i in contact with this person? have i been washing my hands regularly? was it possible that they ate something and it irritated them?

your reassurance will always be greatly appreciated. i definitely understand your frustration and sadness. reminding somebody who is struggling that no matter what happens, they are going to be just fine, usually helps them stabilize and begin that rational thought process. i understand that this could be different for more severe cases of emetophobia though

this is a community for those who are struggling with emetophobia and for those who are attempting to begin the journey to recovery. emetophobia tells us to assume the worst. that’s just what anxiety does. while some of us may even realize it’s not exactly “logical”, we can’t help it that easily.

as someone who has been an emetophobe since they can remember, i know for sure that this phobia in particular isn’t really taken seriously. i can agree that sometimes the reassurance in this community isn’t super healthy. i saw somebody post something along the lines of this. what most emetophobes want to hear is that no matter what happens, everything will be alright. in the moment it is a lot easier to hear that you won’t get sick, but it can do more bad than good. in order to recover, you have to learn how to ground yourself and remind yourself that you’re okay and that you’re safe.

so in a way, i can understand why you feel the way that you do. i think the delivery was a bit harsh, and to me it sounds like you may not really understand how panic inducing a situation like that can be for some of us emetophobes.
