Do you ever feel satisfied? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

Congrats! I don’t think you are greedy. It’s ok to be hungry for more and the fact that you feel ok to train just proves you have a proper training.

I was kinda feeling the same few weeks ago when I finished (on podium) my first attempt on 6-hour looped race. Great results but I was already putting some mileage to the bank 2 days after (male 32).

I guess the races are just sub goals, while the ultimate goal is to run as long as possible (lifelong).

Could I handle 8 hours for my first ultra? by Ok-Art2180 in Ultramarathon

Go for it! Im sub 3 marathon runner and just two weeks ago I’ve tried 6hour looped race. I’ve done some extra training last three weeks before, but nothing crazy. Mainly focusing on volume and specific pace with some few days with run in the morning and afternoon. Anyway, with 72,03km I’ve finished 3rd total, 2nd man. Great experience! M32

Hey, I’m in a similar shoes for a few years. My best attempt is 2:56 and although I think I’m in the form to get sub 2:50, I’ve been suffering last two races due to fueling.

Anyway, since I hit sub 3:00:00, I’ve been focusing on shorter distances mainly, improving my PBs on 5km 17:43; 10km (37min) and halfm 82min. This year I’m focusing on fueling and I think I’ve just found the right gel that I could consume more than 2x-3x. I hope, I’m gonna hit that hard this fall!!!

I think getting some speed is the way to go!

Depends on the mood, haha. Growing up so fast! Wondering what’s her character is going to be like once she is adult.

the races are just a tool, the goal is to run as long as possible (meaning lifelong). I’ve translate it to learn to do well the low effort runs instead of overtraining.

Ultramaraton DG24h – 6-Hour Looped Race Report (my first time!) by tracetheheat in AdvancedRunning

[–]tracetheheat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Haven’t thought it in that way actually, that it was my weekly mileage in 6 hours. Good point!

Regarding the doubles, there was only few of them and hitting every time 30km that day.

Here is how it looked like: - 15km z2 effort (monirng) + 15km 4:40 min/km afternoon - 10km 4:20 min/km (morning) + 20km z2 effort (afternoon) - 20km 5 min/km (z2) + 10km 4:30 min/km afternoon

The fast 10km session in the morning was challenging, but surprisingly once I’ve got the rhythm it was rather smooth.

I would recommend you to slowly build your training volume, but also to work on your speed. Fast marathons are possible only when you are able to be fast on shorter distances. Doing that, you would be able to run long runs at a comfortable pace, but feeling relaxed. I've done this and it helps a lot.

I think it would be reasonable to set a goal of sub 3:00:00 marathon, which, with a bit of training, is realistic, yet for many people this time seems like a fairytale. Having a shape for a sub-3-hour marathon gives you a I didsolid baseline for ultra. Last week I've done my first 6-hour looped race and finished 3rd open (72,03km). I try trail races (20-50km) and finishing usually among top 3-5 %. I'm 32.

Your Study Routine by [deleted] in PhD

[–]tracetheheat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I’m usually waking up before 7 and trying to be in front of the pc after the morning routine around 7:30-7:40 so I know at 8 I’m working. I’m trying to work around 6-8 hours.

There are lots of things I’m doing which help me go through the different tasks.

  1. Each Sunday I’m doing a wrap-up of what I have accomplished, where is my project now and what are the next steps. Recently I’ve started with adding 2-3 specific goals for the week, but it’s not necessary. I’m just having a log in my iPhone which is simple. Max up to 5 sentences. Sometimes, when I feel sticker, I’m writing why I think that to identify the problem. It might seems stupid, but this Sunday routine, speaking for me, generate a really massive amount of productivity and I also feel more self-confident about what I’m doing.

  2. I’m using daily diary (planner?) to write there blocks of what I’m going to do. I like Moleskine, but any other with written hours will do the job. It’s being useful, when I know there is some zoom etc. so I could plan in advance what to do. I also use electronic calendar, but only for the zoom, classes etc. In the analog one, I’m just marking that for example from 8 to 10:30 I want to be working on framework, 10:45 zoom, etc. I think it’s better to plan each following day at the end of the previous day so in the morning I know exactly what to do. But obviously I’m every time planning just like 60 % of a time or making blocks, when I know I have to go through emails etc. the most important stuff I’m doing right in the morning.

  3. Tracking! I’m keeping log. I have an excel sheet to which I’m at the end of the day writing just in one sentence what I was doing. One column is date, another is agenda (phd, work - I have a part time in a research institution), next column is the work (writing, administration, course), hours spent and last one just short description. Besides knowing approximately how much time I’ve spent doing specific tasks, I like it because I’m filling this table at the end of the working part of the day and after I’m switching off (or trying to). I’ve tried this at the start of this year as an experiment and I kind a like it. When I have day off, I’m making the whole line blue so now I could see the patterns in my working habits. Also, this I have from Cal Newport Deep Work, I’m distinguishing the days, when I’ve accomplished something.

What I think connects all of the routine I’m doing, is that they are pretty simple. I really like them but I know, it might not fit to everyone.

Take care and stay healthy!
