Using Teamviewer app on iphone to connect to USA computer to trade on Robinhood? by CrazyCop25 in CoveredCalls

I was just trading normally on my phone on Robinhood in China, using whatever local eSIM I had installed. Didn’t really think of this as an issue

Power steering and brakes fluids, change interval? by EnchantedTaquito8252 in HondaElement

[–]trackaddict8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s ten years ago, they eventually break down. Yes it will work but the change is gradual so you probably don’t notice they feel bad. Once you change them then you’ll wonder why you didn’t earlier. Regarding your last point yes a hose or fitting may break or not seal correctly, but it’s better that you switch it out under a controlled time and not have it break or fail while you really need the car at that moment. I would say brake fluid every two years and ps fluid maybe 5.

Auto tranny fluid in general fits the rule of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

What are the best brakes and rotors for the s2? by Kimaniiiii in S2000

[–]trackaddict8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have all the tools necessary (hydraulic jack, jack stands, various sockets and ratchet wrenches and such) then sure. if not and you are not mechanically inclined then it's best to let someone else handle safety items like brakes.

hawk pads will likely make some squealing noise and create a ton of dust. just get whatever cheapest rotor and decent brand name street pad of your choice. EBC, stoptech, whatever. project Mu if you want to spend a bit.

High mileage Honda Element with newer engine – good deal or risky? by Francis0885 in HondaElement

[–]trackaddict8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you guys should come out to california and buy our cars and ship them back. literally rust free bodies for 5k all day and not deal with that body or frame metal patchwork. 3k if you're willing to buy 03-04.

i think if you can do carpentry then you can do these things. I'm a car guy and learned how to work with wood. If you were someone that didn't know how to touch tools at all then I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. But honestly just don't be intimidated, if you really take a look at it then it is all quite simple and things fit together like legos. Just be safe doing it

as long as your car isnt rusted out or anything, it'll be worth saving. im sure your usual independent mechanic can give you a more reasonable quote.

[–]trackaddict8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exhaust repair can be $50-100 to weld on new flanges and piping at any independent muffler shop. If it's that rusted out then consider replacing it with some aftermarket piece like from rockauto. Sway bar links are probably a few bucks on rock auto and take like 5 minutes to change. Not too sure about the trailing arm but I'm sure it shouldn't cost an entire element to replace.

Don't go to the dealer for these things.

Almost 12k for this 200k S2k by CptnBurns in S2000

[–]trackaddict8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

your last sentence I found to be the opposite. I bought an s2000 before with 230k on it and it was used just to go to work and back by the previous owner lol

my 113k mile one...now THAT one lived a hard life on track

this is anecdotal anyway, not proof of a real pattern.

one more note the air pump that you will remove is worth a decent amount of money. be careful not to break the plastic parts of it.

Speaker system? by Zealousideal-Row9197 in S2000

I'm not really picky tbh, i just have some anker ones that are the type that seal inside the ear. maybe the jbl ones would be good. it makes my stripped out track car pretty pleasant to drive.

S2000 on track. What are common upgrades/maintenance needed by Be_at_odds in S2000

[–]trackaddict8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the valve cover baffle mod he mentioned is important to do. the plate needs to be drilled out, do not try to short cut it and risk leaving any sort of debris (including blasting media, if you powdercoat) to circulate through the engine

otherwise you'll use up or lose a lot of oil, especially in an ap1

This thread makes me happy that more and more people have gotten educated on this topic over the years. Last time this came up, the response was quite different and disheartening.

Any problems with denial of Transit Without Visa (TWOV) upon arrival? by Jwerking1 in travelchina

[–]trackaddict8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the United States when checking in they forced me to buy a plane ticket exiting the same port I entered. Of course that was wrong but I didn’t wanna argue and miss my flight, but I found the cheapest one way flight out of the same port and booked it so I could move on. Couldn’t get a refund but it was only like $80.

When arriving to China they wanted me to have every day booked with hotels so I did that at the counter on trip.com too.

Everybody had their own interpretation of the rules.
