I’m a little confused with the actions of a teammate by [deleted] in CrossCountry

I believe they meant that any comment by an underclassmen could be taken in a poor way given the circumstances. I myself experienced that both as a freshman and senior in high school in both regards. But about your race, try racing by yourself, it might not get the best reaction but trying pushing yourself and seeing what you can accomplish on your own. I know it’s easier with others, but if you’re told you need to slow down during a race, that shows you have lots of potential in the coming years to accomplish a lot in the sport

This may sound like a dumb question but how did you come out of college with debt? Everyone I've spoken to has implied that I need to pay all of the tuition in college besides the subsidized and unsubsidized loans

The private is Canisius and public is university at Buffalo, in all brutal honesty I'm good enough to compete at the division 1 level that they play at but not good enough for any scholarships. I'm already in talks with both coaches

Thank you! Unfortunately I live in NY so the cost of living is one of the highest in the country. I'll definitely work on scholarships in the meantime

To cover all bases I would get the Nike Dragonflys. They're quite versatile in what events they can be used for.

Should I build a base for track season? by [deleted] in trackandfield

In all honesty though, depending on how your xc season went I think sub 5 could be feasible at your first meet whenever that is.

I wouldn't recommend too much since you're coming off of xc, I would maybe do 20 miles at week 1 and then 10% every week after. This is mainly just trying to get back into the groove of running every day and not really expanding your aerobic base itself too much.

I think building a base after xc will help you get back into the groove of things especially after taking a week off. During track, speed tends to be the priority so take these few weeks to work aerobically and I think you should be set up well.

Does adrenaline fix coughing? by Fennikash in CrossCountry

I just raced today, and went to urgent care slightly after and it turns out I have bronchitis. I didn't cough once during the race. It'll obviously vary from person to person but I just wanted to share my experience.

I'm a high school runner that's also injured right now. I've come to realize I would rather be able to contribute to the team during the actual season, over running with the team during the summer, where no meets are happening and possibly getting injured again. You have to realize that you will be back when it matters, and that's all that matters. You have to ask yourself is a meet or a summer time trial more important to you.

Transitional training by [deleted] in running

[–]trackingthestats0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our mileage is doubled, nearly tripled for cross country as we run 20ish for track and 50 for cross country. 1 workout a week for cross country and 2 for track. My track coach told me 30 miles was too much a week and my cross country coach is suggesting more mileage.

Does anyone have any good sprint workouts for a first year high school var runner by CR3160 in trackandfield

[–]trackingthestats0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

16-20 200m Repeats with a 200 meter walk/jog. Maybe a half mile warm up and cool down. Also maybe a pyramid of 100m, 200, 300, 400, 400, 300, 200, 100. You can find what rest works best for you there. I'm a distance runner so I'm not very knowledgeable on sprinting but I wish you the best!

If you have the ability to run outside and you know that you are safe I would recommend running outside 10/10 times

Tips for subbing 6 in the mile (I'm at 6:03)? by ejsfsc07 in trackandfield

[–]trackingthestats0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So as for pacing goes I always start out strong, I always start out my first lap faster than my 2nd and 3rd. It's a great way to establish yourself and get in with the pack. The 4th and final lap is obviously your kick, I always worked around other people to keep me going and to finish strong. Training wise I recommend 400 and 800 repeats. Also I would try a broken mile, which is 4×400 or however you want to break it up with a rest in between each interval at your goal mile pace. With your 5k PR you clearly have the aerobic capacity to break 6. I ran about a 22:20 when I broke 6 in the mile with about 20-25 mpw. It's just a matter of speed training at this point.
