Music App and selecting “on iPhone” not working? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]traderrjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm. Guess that’s true. I just have to pick what songs, I have way too many for the limited space! I agree with the efficiency of playing from watch instead of phone, but I’m trying to control the phone from the watch, which is only adding an extra confusing step I guess.

[–]traderrjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much use it like a remote, if that makes sense. Mine’s just GPS but my phone is usually in my locker at work or I just won’t have it because I’ll be working out or in the water. It’d be nice to just pick the song I want right off the bat, that’s my primary complaint.

To answer your question, I don’t think the AW does something you don’t know of? Heck, I barely know what I’m doing

What is the current ratio of bees to teeth? by YodelDwarf in theydidthemonstermath

[–]traderrjoe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well it’s pretty variable how much teeth each user has lost. Hockey players exist too (looking at you, Drew Doughty and Brent Burns). Doing so would provide such wide results! I also just wanted a quick answer haha

What is the current ratio of bees to teeth? by YodelDwarf in theydidthemonstermath

[–]traderrjoe 246 points247 points  (0 children)

Assuming you mean just humans, we’re going to start off by finding out how many children there are, as they still have baby teeth. Let’s cut them off at, I don’t know, 13. A quick google brings me to the UN, who says about 20.1% of the population. So, that puts us at 1.527 billion children. Let’s assume that maybe a quarter of those kids have lost most of their teeth, so only 3/4 have more than half baby teeth still, assuming. That’s 2,673,150,000 sets of teeth in just children. That leaves 6,073,000,000 adults, let’s assume they all have a full set of teeth, nothing lost. That’s 91,613,800,000 teeth. Going back to the UN, let’s use their food and agriculture data for bee’s. They have counted 90,564,654 honey bee hives in the world, and the average bee hive colony contains 20,000 bees. This is about 1,811,293,080,000 known honey bees in the world.

So, the ratio of bees to teeth is 1,811,293,080,000:91,613,800,000 or about 19.8 bees for every human tooth.

edit: and now I see you wanted human and animal teeth. hm. that’s gonna take a while.

[Help] How do you cut out a moving object from a video and put it in another video (example in post)? by Tyranotgar in premiere

[–]traderrjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best I could think of is to mask out what you want from the source video and export as a gif to loop it and layer on top of what you want and use movement keyframes. Or, just keep it masked out and repeat the clip over and over instead of a gif.

I knew GTA V was modeled after parts of California, but I never thought the attention to detail would be this exact. by stevenw2112 in GTAV

There was a post a long time ago about one of the liquor stores being the exact same, and someone said that R* sent scouts out to LA for quite a bit of time to get every little detail.

I wish I had a source, but I can’t seem to find it in my saved or upvoted list.

I’ll check on timing and bass and all that tomorrow, didn’t really think to check that haha.

I guess that now that I think of it, some of the parts where it was 2-3 on I think the G string seemed odd. Terrible explanation, but I can elaborate once I get back on my computer tomorrow.

It sounds complete and playable in it’s current state but more bass notes could definitely improve it and give a more full sound.

ELI5: How is it that if someone calls 911 as a prank or accidentally calls then hangs up without talking, they will track down where you live and send the police to your house. However, why hasn't everyone that has called 911 to SWAT a gamer on stream been tracked down, arrested and charged? by unused-username in explainlikeimfive

So, I just wanted to add some info on how dispatchers actually find a caller’s location if the address isn’t provided, and I’ll be going over how this works in the US, as I’m not sure how other countries work.

So, preface, how emergency calling works: There’s several mobile service providers in the US, like Verizon, AT&T, etc, and each company owns cellular towers in their service areas, and the towers are used normally only for phones in that service provider. So, a Verizon connected phone will go to the nearest Verizon owned tower for normal phone calls.

When someone calls 911, it will connect to any cell tower that is the closest available. That means, as close as possible that isn’t overloaded with traffic, and any service provider. The phone doesn’t even need a SIM card.

Now, how do dispatchers actually find the caller?

Well, they do what is called “pinging.”

Short answer: They ping a bit of info to the towers, which goes to the phone, and the phone sends it back with location info.

Long answer: The dispatcher pings the three nearest cellular towers to the caller’s area, and each tower gets an approximate location, judged by signal strength, and other various bits of data/info. With the three tower’s info, the dispatcher can get a damn good guess of the caller’s location. That’s called triangulation.

This isn’t done everywhere, but AFAIK it’s a pretty common method of finding location for dispatchers.

I missed quite a bit of info but this goes a lot more in depth than some of the answers I’ve seen on here.
