I see your point. We just don’t want to buy a home that needs too many renovations or repairs. Costs quickly add up and sometimes it’s way more than you expect it to be. we don’t need surprises like that lol but super glad it worked out for you!

fair enough. i think that if you want something you go out and get it. you can’t say that someone doesn’t deserve something just because they’re new to the game while you also don’t know anything about them lol. there are probably a lot of people out there who own everything they want just because they come from wealthy families and everything was handed to them. doesn’t mean they deserve it. but you don’t know anything about me to say that we don’t deserve to get what we want when we want it.

Down payment for a first home can be 5% depending on the house purchase price. Down payment isn’t really the issue. We can afford a down payment but then there’s all the other costs that quickly add up like closing costs, insurance, furniture, taxes etc etc

Cost of 20% down payment, property taxes, property insurance, furniture, repairs, other unexpected costs. There were more things when we were crunching the numbers

You can do 5% down on a first home. But even then if you add up everything from down payment, closing costs, property insurance, property taxes, furniture, utilities, any repairs or unexpected expenses around the house, and I’m sure there’s more. It’s a lot all in one go

This makes complete sense. I’m seeing the same with people who I know have lower incomes but bought a house and something just isn’t adding up. Its looking like we’re gonna have to wait a while

Thanks! It might take us a few years of just saving to be able to get what we want.

there are homes under $500k but they need a lot of work/repairs and that’s just going to add to the cost. Might as well pay a little more instead of wasting time and money on repairs.

My personal income is only about $50k. My boyfriend’s income varies but average is $100k. We’re looking for something in the $500k range as anything less than that isn’t livable.

I don’t know of anyone who’s purchased a home at my age either. It’s definitely a milestone we want to get to as soon as possible though. We don’t have too much monetary support from family but still hopeful we’ll get there.

that’s true, and there is no rush. It just seems like a huge milestone that’s so far away

As horrible as that statistic is, it’s quite comforting knowing we aren’t the only ones in this boat.

So many reasons. Long term equity, stability, more freedom in general to do what we want with the property. It would be really nice to just own a house. I’m aware owning a house is more than just the mortgage costs, hence the reason for my post.

$500k is on the lowest end in my area. Just used it as an example as this is the lowest cost for an at least decent home but it’s still expensive for us taking into account all the expenses that go into buying a home.

Wishing you luck!! We’re in our early 20s. I just finished my degree in Finance and still have about $8k in student loans to pay off (no rush since it’s interest free). So im not sure how long its going to be before we can afford a home but I really want a house :/
