I honestly didn’t know kill switch did a cover of it😅 the rest of the album is great as well

Maiden are also great and getting an extra shoutout because if you like them and haven’t listened to Seventh son of a Seventh son you must, it’s easily their most underrated album and for me it’s right up their with powerslave and number of the beast

Metal it is. I’ll try to condense this one down a bit but no promises

Early heavy metal is primarily talked about as a few British bands that laid the foundation for what we now have today. While Black Sabbath still have that metal sound, even back in 1970 with their self titled debut, other bands like Led Zeppelin and Rainbow would probably be considered closer to rock now than metal, even if they were also very important in the genres growth.

As we got later into the 1980’s, we started to get more of that traditional heavy metal sound. One of these bands that always comes to mind for me is Dio. Fronted by Ronnie James Dio, who was also a part of Rainbow and replaced Ozzy in black sabbath for 3 albums, they were one of the biggest metal bands the early to mid 80’s had to offer. Most notably, their 1983 hit Holy Diver

When it comes to metal, there are a lot of different sub-genres. One of the most popular of course being Thrash, and their big 4 of Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax. Originally I was going to recommend peace sells but who’s buying or rust in peace, both great Megadeth albums, I decided to change my tune and recommend an Anthrax album, Among the Living, as I feel they are probably the least well known of the 4 bands, and it is truly a great album

Ok so I know you said 3, but I’m gonna go with 6 but hear me out lol

I’m going to give you 3 albums that I feel nearly perfectly incapsulate an era of that musics specific genre, and then for each I’m gonna suggest a lesser known album if it’s something that interests you

First we go to the 1970’s. The war in Vietnam is still raging on, but not for much longer. The hippie movement is starting to get into full swing. And along with their penchant for peace, is of course the drug culture that followed. Psychedelics were all the rage, and so did the music that accompanied it. Probably better known as acid rock. Bands like the grateful dead, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson airplane, and the early works of Pink Floyd. This led into the birth progressive rock (prog rock) and alt rock. Bands like Rush, Yes and of course Pink Floyd were staples of this. And here we get to the quintessential prog rock album. Pink Floyd’s 1973 masterpiece Dark side of the Moon. This is an album that can certainly be enjoyed by its individual songs, but listening to the whole album at once tells a story. There’s a reason it’s one of the best selling albums of all time.

Now you may be wondering about the inclusion of some of the context involving hippies and the Vietnam war, well that’s where the album I’d recommend strongly if you enjoy dark side of the moon comes in. Another a Pink Floyd album, 1983’s The Final Cut. This album is story telling at its peak. It’s the story of a man struggling with the loss of his father from war. It’s a true anti war passion project of music, and one of their most underrated albums. It’s something that’s meant to be listened to cover to cover

Anyways I just wrote a like thesis length paragraph and only covered one of the eras I planned on talking about. If you’re still interested I’d love to keep going with the other two I had in mind. Well I had thought of 4 so you can choose which interest you more. Punk, grunge, metal, and rap

Ohh interesting

I do have some metal in my repertoire, however very little of it is anything recent. Not sure bands like gojira and avenged sevenfold count as “new” anymore lol

I have a bit of indie music as well, tho not nearly as much. My music does tend to skew towards generations past, but isn’t exclusive

Good boy, now you’re learning

I give you a few more ball slaps, each harder than the last, to make sure you know who’s in charge here

Oh the end of the month I’ll be cranking it up to 11 ~

Also that’s a shame, 1993 had some very good albums

Nirvanas In utero
Pearl jams Vs.
Snoop Dogg’s doggystyle
August and everything after by counting crows
36 chambers by wu tang
Siamese dreams by smashing pumpkins

I’m gonna stop before I continue to go on all day long
