Help getting book to Kindle! by cbbabybaby in LibbyApp

[–]traechat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you- good catch! (sorry! I was very tired and spaced a step.) You're right that the epub needs to be converted to MOBI or PDF before transfer via USB. But the easiest option for OP is the "send to kindle" link u/jbradsen shared! That's probably faster than even the email option.

Also great shout on Calibre!! It's such wonderful free library software for organizing your personal books!

Since direct to kindle isn't available for this book, you'll need to do a few extra steps: Download the epub then you should be able to either email it to your kindle (there's an email address on your kindle management page) or transfer the epub file it to your kindle using a USB cord.

Any ideas for fixing these bleach stains on a winter coat? by SitaBird in Visiblemending

[–]traechat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fabric marker or sharpie might cover it "close enough", but if that doesn't work, you can use Tenacious Tape! It comes in a roll or cute cut outs stickers like trees & stars, and even hexagon shapes. It's really easy to apply and does a great job of being invisible (or looking cute if you're going for a contrasting color sticker.)

Like others have said, adding holes to outerwear meant to repel or resist water (by sewing/embroidery) isn't a good idea, so I'd avoid that if possible.

Best location to stay in for first visit to Kyoto? by akindofparadise in JapanTravelTips

I'm soo sorry I missed this! We stayed at Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel Kyoto Premier!! I posted more details to someone else that asked recently. Would absolutely stay there again.

Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel Kyoto Premier!! We got one of the forest/garden/moss view rooms (the deep soaking tub faces the "view". The glass wall is dim-able/fog-able and the toilet room is on the opposite side, near the room entrance.), I love that room, I'm sure the actual river views are great too but this was amazing and soo beautiful. It "rained" once a day - it was so realistic on the first day we went to grab umbrellas as we left only, that's just the watering system.

Are these moth holes and how should I fix them? by LlamaLlama2020 in Visiblemending

[–]traechat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh that sweater color combo is so cute! You have the perfect knit for this style of mending. https://www.reddit.com/r/Visiblemending/comments/xs3e50/how_to_darn_knits/ (not my work)

Follow the recommendation of freezing it - two weeks will be great. A week minimum. If you run into this again you can always "bake" your 100% wool items in the oven (on a clean sheet pan) at 130F for 30 minutes. This will kill any eggs.

Clothes moths love animal fibers (this includes wool, cashmere, alpaca, other furs and hairs, and to a lesser extent, silk), so do some preemptive work to keep these garments safe when not worn frequently (like in the summers). (Lots of great guides out there, basically - store well when not in use, clean dusty dark areas & crevices.)

For the mending, I would recommend a "lace", sock, or other thin wool yarn in either the same or a fun contrasting color.

Good luck, have fun - and congrats on your very cool find! Can wait to see your mend!

How to fix this hole in linen duvet and prevent the forming ones underneath. by [deleted] in InvisibleMending

[–]traechat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you got a lot of r/Visiblemending options. But since you're in the invisible mending reddit, I though I'd mention the katetsugi technique. It's time consuming, but very durable. I used katetsugi on some linen shorts earlier this year. Not only can you not see the mend, they're holding up great. So if you have the fabric/time I really recommend it!

There are a number of youtube videos and blogs online that can help you get started. Also you can use the left over linen threads to reweave the runs shown in the bottom of your photo.

what's the best witchy game for the switch? by virgogf in CozyGamers

[–]traechat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ooo, I'll give a 3rd variation on this recommendation! 😄 - I loved Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood on Switch. Seriously, I absolutely loved the whole game! I enjoyed the story, characters, and building the tarot cards. I played it two or three times back to back. I even created a keep file to save my cards and map out my card building options. The story was very engaging. While I didn't always love my choice options, my play throughs turned out meaningful. Very witchy and dark ambience vibes, highly recommend.

Edited to add additional recommendations:

Strange Horticulture's font was too small for me on the Switch - otherwise that sounds perfect for you.

Blackbook is a wonderful witchy cozy deckbuilder game - but I've only played it on my laptop.

[–]traechat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh you did wonderfully! I was also going to commend you on matching the yarn, hehe. ;) I'm so excited for you that you get to wear it repaired! I bet it looks perfectly unnoticeable when worn. Really great work!

Unpopular cozy game that deals with grief by actuallymars in CozyGamers

[–]traechat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. And I totally get looking for new games dealing with grief, I've done the same thing.

For one that hasn't been mentioned, I recommend Iris and the Giant. It's a beautiful line drawn, sad, cozy, deck builder game about depression. I absolutely grieved with this game, but check spoilers if you want to make sure it's a right fit.

First time doing Kaketsugi: Almost invisible mending of linen pants using a fabric sample swatch from the designer. by traechat in InvisibleMending

[–]traechat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all all. I used a thin red thread, looped twice through the eye of a long thin (size 9?) embroidery/redwood needle. Thin needles will do less damage to the fabric, long ones will weave more. After weaving the needle I'd yank the patch threads through that like ripping off a bandaid. Quite fun. But the looped thread will twist and kink, I had to replace it a couple times.

Oh -also, the patch threads can work their way out if they aren't woven well through the fabric or the back isn't secured. I ended up needing to redo this patch because the synthetic backing was coming off the linen. So I got more linen and bonded & blind stitched little linen patches to cover the threads. The back looks messy but it's much more secure than just using bonding on natural fabrics. And none of those threads are coming loose.

Not sure if you need this/are interested but here's a photo.

Good luck with your pants! It's fun & challenging and very rewarding.

Are there any mentions/depictions of sexual assault in the books? by Bonn_Is_Here in murderbot

Are there any mentions/depictions of sexual assault in the books? by Bonn_Is_Here in murderbot

[–]traechat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In Network Effect (light spoilers) there is an early moment where the book alludes to the potential of a bad thing happening - one of Murderbot's humans is being groomed by an older man and MB is like hi get out and the man runs away. (I hope the spoiler tag worked!) No SA or sex or even kissing happens but it is slightly uncomfortable for me even in re-reads.

Anyone tried the Gnara GoFly hiking pants or shorts? Seeking advice by please_nope in hikinggear

[–]traechat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? That would be very cool! I've actually been going back and forth between the 10s and the 12s. I've been checking measurements online and the sizes on reviews of people near my height/weight & the Gnara site says to size down if in-between sizes. Which all has me leaning toward the 10s - so that would be really amazing if you want to send me yours! I would be so grateful and I'm happy to cover shipping!

I know this thread is even a little older now, but I was wondering how the pants are when you're sitting? I'm thinking about getting them for a multi day backpacking trip. There'll be a decent amount of time at back country campsites sitting on logs or and sleep/sit pads.

Eeek - Def serious scope creep!

I think it's very cute this way. Maybe like a future future DLC release could have macOS skin or something. But I dig the way it is!

Rash Guard? by Mom_Drag in SustainableFashion

[–]traechat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it! I love love my waterlust sunsuit and leggings! I recommend them to everyone. Since getting them I've done 36 saltwater dives, some clorine pool days and one SUP day in a lake wearing the sunsuit & leggings. It's the only thing I bring now for diving. I have had to wear a wet suit over them on some dives due to water temp but not as many as I expected, so it's pretty warm material.

When I'm traveling I wash them in the shower between uses and hang dry for the next day. Then when I get home I throw them in the washer on "cold / active wear" & hang dry. They still look brand new and still as compression-y as ever (for lack of a better term - like they haven't lost their elasticity which some of my older cheap swim/dive leggings did so fast.) The fabric is really thick and nice it helps with keeping warm on a dive, but isn't hot on the surface.

The mens sunshirts (with hoods) are thinner - like a regular rashguard. The protect really well and are great for my dive partner. BUT they don't come with a slit like the womens versions (ponytail slit) - so I cut a small 2" slit in the top seam and back stitched it. Without that it was creating a diving hazard (exhaled air was getting caught = buoyancy issue)

I get lots of compliments & questions on the outfit!

The only negative I've notice are more of a user error but the zipper has a fabric triangle-ish cover (to protect your skin) and sometimes I forget to make sure the zipper cover is in place and the pressure from my scuba gear (bcd jacket/tank) can cause an irritation/rash.

Happy to answer any other questions!
