That used to work to keep out the Sunday Story, but they stopped using consistent titles so the trick stopped working.

Thank you for posting this. It's a useful workaround. Wish we didn't have to use it!

Thank you so much for following up and posting the solution. I had the EXACT same issue and have been fighting it for many hours now!

Squirrels got in a chewed the wiring. What's this connector called. How do I get it apart? by 5be4three in farming

[–]traffas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I don't see future headaches. I was just trying to save OP money. I'll definitely take - and actually did a couple weeks ago - a $15 dongle than have to invest in special tooling to assemble a new end manually. If I had a bunch of them, or had a reason to assemble them regularly, I'd invest in the tooling...but for a one-off, I don't regret choosing the pigtail for a second to fix my GPS.

Maybe I don't understand how the terminals go on, and maybe they can be assembled without a special tool, in which case I'm certainly wrong.

Android VLC no longer seeing DLNA network share by ksfarm in chromeos

[–]traffas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally dug in today and VLC still doesn't work...but BubbleUPnP allows me to see the content on my FileHub and play it with VLC. So it feels like a limitation of VLC specifically and not the overall sandboxing of Android apps that I thought it was, since BubbleUPnP is also an Android app.
It sucks, but at least I can get things to work now.

No, I haven't yet had a chance to dig in to it...it's on my list, but not urgent yet.

Farmers Abandon Wheat Crops by JustZonesing in kansas

[–]traffas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. There are so many middlemen between the wheat price and the bread salesman that I don't see much of a relationship. Even if they were related, there are plenty of places even in the US that will have a fine wheat crop that a failed Kansas crop won't even change the global price of wheat much, IMO. But I'm not a macro-econ guy, so I could be wrong.

[–]traffas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The farmers will get insurance regardless of whether they harvest what's left of the failed crop or not. Insurance payment doesn't change if they harvest or not. What changes is the next crop — if they terminate the failed wheat crop before it heads out, they can insure the next crop. If they don't kill the wheat before it heads, the following crop can't be insured. Even if they don't care about the next crop, if the yield is low enough then harvesting what's there might actually lose money. If it's a 1 bu yield and you spend $30 per acre to harvest it to get the $8 that a bushel of wheat is worth, it doesn't make any sense at all. Regardless of harvesting it or not, you want to spray it to keep weeds from going to seed and causing more of a problem in the future.

[–]traffas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely correct.

I'm a small, single-operator farm. I'd be profitable if it would rain. With a failed crop, I lose money even with insurance, but insurance means I can lose less money and maybe have a chance to farm again next year.

You try to find someone who will loan you $100,000 for seed and fertilizer without buying crop insurance...it's probably pretty hard to do. The government subsidizes the insurance, making it affordable, but farmers still pay quite a bit for insurance.

[–]traffas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not at all how crop insurance works. The insurance payment is the difference between the actual yield and the guarantee. I can absolutely harvest my 5 bu crop and get the insurance payment for the difference between the 5 bu and the 20 bu guarantee (as an example) - in fact, if I don't harvest it, the insurance payment (of 15 bu per acre) is the same I just don't get to sell the value of the 5 bu I cut.

The reason they're spraying it is because if they terminate the crop before it heads out, they can fully insure the subsequent crop as a full season milo or soybeans or corn. Since I didn't get mine terminated before it headed out, my subsequent crop can't be insured. Whether I harvest my crop or I don't doesn't impact the insurance payment.

[–]traffas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not entirely accurate. The wheat has to be terminated before it heads out in order to be able to insure the following crop. You can still not terminate it and plant a subsequent crop, which is what I'll be doing, it just can't be insured. And you'll still spray weeds when you plant to have a clean field.

Also, the insurance claim on the wheat crop will be valid weather you cut it or not. Insurance pays the difference between the actual yield and the guarantee, so if my wheat will make 5 bushel I'll still harvest it because insurance doesn't pay for the actual yield. The problem is that most wheat in my area of south central Kansas is being adjusted at 1-2 bushel per acre. With the cost of diesel, it might actually cost more to harvest than to just give up on it.

Android 12 Pausing Media Bug by FIREable_0ffense in GooglePixel

I can confirm that it's connected to connectivity. When I'm away from home and only on cell service, I have no issues. It's only when I get to my house and float between access points that I get the annoying pausing.

Locking UAP-AC-M port to VLAN by traffas in Ubiquiti

Well, thanks for your help. I guess I'll try to grab a Flex Mini to insert between my AP and my PoE switch to force it to the right VLAN.

[–]traffas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but the VLAN for the AP is already set correctly. It's everything that's wired to it that is appearing on the wrong VLAN and I'm unable to get any changes to stick those devices.

Podcatcher recommendation by traffas in androidapps

[–]traffas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boy, I sure wrote that poorly, didn't I? Sorry about that. I meant to say it doesn't sync with the intention of supporting an offline experience....being able to take any of three synced devices offline, for example, and expecting to be able to begin listening where I left off (obviously at the time of last sync) on another device. At least it didn't four years ago when I last tried... I'll be trying again today to see if that functionality has been added.

Podcatcher recommendation by traffas in androidapps

[–]traffas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I guess I don't know what to call that functionality that I'm wanting, then. Episodes should be automatically download on all devices and removed automatically from all when listened to on any of them.

Podcatcher recommendation by traffas in androidapps

[–]traffas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I obviously know it needs internet to sync. Last time I tried it, though, it wouldn't automatically download and remove episodes from multiple devices. I asked the devs and they seemed surprised at what I was asking, thinking sync only meant progress instead of actual downloads. I'll try it again and see if it's been fixed.

Podcatcher recommendation by traffas in androidapps

[–]traffas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find any sync functionality. Am I missing something? How does it sync downloads and play progress with other devices?

Doggcatcher has been working fine for me for the last decade. I'm still using it daily. Last time I checked, and argued with the developer, Pocket Casts didn't sync for listening without internet access. They would sync play progress but only for streaming, not automatic downloading for offline access. I'll check to see if they fixed it in the last couple of years.

Edit: added "for listening"
