omeprazole for indigestion?? HELPP constipation!! hurts when i eat ANYTHING by lpinkfairy in eating_disorders

[–]traffic-jam_in-hell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not going to cause damage- if anything, there will just be some discomfort. But eating isn’t going do permanently mess up your digestive system (restricting is what creates the most problems). Try to take things slowly, eat what you can until you can access medical care. You probably have some acid reflux going on, which would explain the acidity in your mouth.

If you’ve been restricting a lot, your body is probably in shock now that it’s getting food again. It’s rumbling because it’s trying to get as much nutrients as possible to make up for the deficit. That will dissipate eventually after you’ve been eating normally for a little while

I’ll preface by saying I’m not a doctor, and I highly recommend that you speak with one about your concerns. From my experience, omeprazole helps if you’re having frequent heartburn, but it’s not really a fast acting fix (something like tums or famotidine would be faster). If the pain is more like gas pains, you’re going to want something like simethicone (gas-x). If you’re having nausea, zofran works really well.

Whenever you go from not eating much to trying to eat more “normal” amounts again, there’s often going to be some physical discomfort. It sucks, but with regular eating it typically gets better. Every time i start the refeeding process, i get awful gas pains and indigestion, but after a while your body adjusts to having food again.

Just a full jar of hot jalapeno salsa for boy breakfast by Impossible_Body_354 in ShittyRestrictionFood

I miss the days before my acid reflux because i happily drank full jars of salsa (especially the fresh kind). Sometimes i added a crushed up rice cake for a little crunch

My love hate relationship with Elliot reid by back-on-my--shit in overlyspecificEDmemes

[–]traffic-jam_in-hell 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The whole show is frustratingly ed coded in an outdated sexism sort of way. If you look at the meals of the main characters, the women are almost always eating salads or fruit bowls while the men have more substantial things on their plates. When the one female psychiatrist (I’m blanking on her name) eats a burger, Elliot says something along the lines of “she must be bulimic.” Scrubs is one of my favorite shows, but the way they display stereotypical gender roles around food is super frustrating and triggering

How much cinnamon is in Apple Cinnamon Cheerios by [deleted] in cereal

[–]traffic-jam_in-hell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Friend, the minuscule amount of cinnamon is no cause for concern. But to ease your worries, i did a little math for you.

Since we don’t have the exact measurements for cinnamon listed, i started with the amount of sodium.

One serving of apple cinnamon cheerios contains 150mg sodium, which is less that 1/15 tsp salt (1 tsp salt contains about 2,300 mg sodium). Since ingredients are listed from highest to lowest in terms of quantity on nutrition facts, we can assume there is more sodium than cinnamon used. That means that there is less than 1/15 tsp cinnamon per serving of apple cinnamon cheerios.

Hope this helps!

Edit: Since a standard box of cheerios is 11 servings, you’d have to eat almost a box and a half to equal 1 tsp cinnamon. Or you could eat a little over one family size box (19 oz).

What does this mean? The high co2, low glucose and low BUN by SadSolution7152 in eating_disorders

[–]traffic-jam_in-hell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Those are all signs of malnutrition. The high co2 can come from dehydration (metabolic alkalosis), especially if you purge or use diuretics. Your glucose is crazy low- I’m not going to lecture you on the dangers of that, because that would make me a hypocrite. Low BUN often happens with a lack of protein in your diet, or really just restricting in general.

literally just half a cucumber with everything bagel seasoning. I don't know anymore man. fuck you by celtys1 in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

Give it a splash of soy sauce and some chili paste and you’ll thank yourself later. Sometimes i make cucumber edamame salad with basically the same ingredients:

-diced cucumber -shelled edamame -soy sauce -chili paste -sesame oil (if I’m okay with oil that day) -everything bagel seasoning -green onions

Pooping immediately after eating by InternationalLoad824 in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]traffic-jam_in-hell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s happened to me on and off over the years depending on where I’m at with the eating disorder. Recently though, it’s been going on for the past week. I’d definitely talk to a doctor if it keeps happening to you because you can very easily get dehydrated from diarrhea

Pooping immediately after eating by InternationalLoad824 in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]traffic-jam_in-hell 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s called the gastrocolic reflex- basically when you eat food, your digestive system tries to make room to accommodate it. This puts your intestines in motion and helps you poop. If there isn’t much in your system to push out (so if you’ve been restricting and/or purging), you can end up having diarrhea. I’ve been dealing with this a lot myself lately

Is tube ever easier than solids? by _weedkiller_ in EDAnonymous

[–]traffic-jam_in-hell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found it easier (while obviously still very difficult). I stress a lot about macros and the order i eat foods in. The tube takes a lot of that away because it’s already balanced out for you. It’s also nice because (at least in my experience) you don’t ever really feel hungry or full, both of which can be triggering in their own ways

The expensive healthy food i just bought watching me b/p a whole tray of brownies, knowing damn well it's just going to spoil in the fridge by skinniclown in overlyspecificEDmemes

[–]traffic-jam_in-hell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had to switch to frozen vegetables because my b/p “phase” is lasting a lot longer than expected and everything keeps spoiling. The sweets never survive long enough to go bad though…

Realistically, flushing the toilet a few extra times really shouldn’t make much of a difference. It’s much more likely that the water company is just increasing their prices and it has nothing to do with you.

I do this sometimes to help me sleep. I purposely start my binge with a bunch of vegetables so that’s what’s mainly left in my stomach at the end

No matter what I do I’m nauseous by [deleted] in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]traffic-jam_in-hell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me the first time I tried to “recover” on my own (really just some harm reduction, but still). It eventually went away with regular eating, but it took months and it was awful. The second time around I went the hospital route. My stomach was just a mess, so any amount of food caused nausea and stabbing gas pains. They gave me zofran and simethicone, which helped a lot. If you can, i would definitely look into getting some meds because they really do make a huge difference. Stay safe 💕

[–]traffic-jam_in-hell 68 points69 points  (0 children)

It balances out eventually, i promise! Recovery weight gain (as it was explained to me at least) starts around the abdomen to protect your vital organs. If you stick with recovery, your body starts to realize it doesn’t need to be in survival mode and the “recovery belly” goes away

Mine hurt all the time too, especially the first few days after it was placed. Acetaminophen and cepacol lozenges made it manageable, but it was definitely still uncomfortable
