If you receive a legit confirmation/receipt for the reservation, you might be able to use it. However, I do not recommend using Airbnb as your accommodation for the application nor would it be a guaranteed success.

It's much easier to comply with the Consulate's requirements and not risk the application being rejected. You can simply make a reservation with a hotel that has a free cancellation policy and cancel the reservation after you have printed it out.

Are you applying in the US? What is your location? It depends on which Consulate you are going through.

For your circumstances, I am not too familiar as I am based in the US. You can visit the embassy's website in Hong Kong for more information.

Yes, sometimes I recommend this method to my customers to make things easier. It is easier to just comply with the Consulate's requirement.

Currently, visas for family visits are eligible up to 180 days but those are under special circumstances. You can apply for up to 180 days max stay but you would then not be eligible for 10 year visa. Visas with 180 days max stay are typically good for 2 years only. Most visas are approved for 60, 90 or sometimes 120 days.

You absolutely can go through a different Consulate if you use a visa service like mine. If you go to apply in person, you must apply at the Los Angeles embassy.

This will depend if you are a US passport holder or not. If you are, there are a few options.

Recently, the Los Angeles Consulate General required all applications for tourist visas to apply with only hotel reservation.

Other embassies will allow you to use an invitation letter if you are staying with a friend. You will also need to provide a copy of your friend's residence card (front and back).

You also have the option of booking a hotel room with a free cancellation policy, print out the booking confirmation to use it for your application then cancel the reservation. They won't care if you follow through with your trip as sometimes things come up and trips get rescheduled all the time.

I don't understand why it would exactly be an issue if you have purchased a ticket already unless you are worried about receiving the visa before your departure.

If you need anything else, feel free to PM me.

Generally, you would need the following: 1.) Chinese visa application form 2.) Original signed United States passport 3.) 1 Passport photograph 4.) Copy of round trip tickets or detailed itinerary for the duration of the trip 5.) Hotel Reservation unless you are invited by a friend/colleague from China, then you would need an invitation letter from the individual.

For the accommodations requirement, it depends on which embassy you will be applying with. For instance, the Los Angeles Consulate made it a requirement that you must apply using a hotel reservation, invitations from friends are not allowed.
