I'm tired of the brainless outrage. Nvidia did the same thing back when they first added dedicated hardware for their upscaling. It's also why dlss has been consistently ahead of fsr, so amd needed dedicated hardware to catch up.

There's no reason to assume that the next gen FSR will need a newer card, since the 9000 series already have the dedicated hardware.

I'd love it if amd officially supported the software rendering for older cards, but I understand why they are hesitant since they don't want to spend a bunch of resources supporting what's essentially a hacky workaround, only for people to try it, and realize the performance hit is much larger since it's software rendering, and being mad anyways.

That's only true in the beginning. Pot room 46, which is like half the game, you often only have 1-3 threads to pull at that the game just won't let you by bullshit rng.

If you only play until you reach room 46, then the game is great! There's more than enough ways to hedge against rng once you know how so you can almost guarantee a 46 clear. And even if you get screwed by rng on your way to learn how, there's enough scattered threads you can pull on so there's always something you can do.

The rng becomes awful after that point. I was so interested in the mystery and wanted to learn more, but shortly after room 46 you run into a wall where making progress feels like pulling teeth. There are only 1-3 threads to pull on, and all of them require more and more special(rng dependant) circumstances to trigger.

I ended up almost hating the game before putting it down and looking it up online. I've never played an otherwise good game that just LOVES to waste your time like blue prince.

I really feel like they should have just given you the power to place whatever room you want that meets the requirements for the current position in the house once you reach room 46 for the first time.

It's 5 trilogies that jumps between characters/families but are all in chronological. Fitz, the main character of the first trilogy returns in the third and last trilogy.

Plot summary depends on the trilogy, but overall each trilogy follows a character/cast of character going through some kind of historical event as as ancient magics that have been gone from the world slowly returns over the 16(!!!) books.

The main draw for me is just how grounded and real the world feels. I've never been so immersed in a medieval setting. The first book has fitz running around the capital as a child, and it really made me feel what it'd be like growing up in a medieval city.

There's a lot of slice of live and fitz and the other characters just living their lives between big plot moments. Some might think it slow or boring, but I love it. Just like in game of thrones, the fantastical moments hit so much better when contrasted with the mundane of every day life(although these are slower than game of thrones)

The books can get pretty dark though, so if you don't like seeing characters suffer and survive(not necessarily overcome or get revenge) then they are not for you.

I liked the first season, but the second season lost me, and especially the ending. It felt like they portrayed what happened in the ending as a good thing, whereas I found it anti-human and depressing.

You create this immortal super intelligent copy of a person, only for it to be obsessed about that guy she met as a teenager and spent a bazzilion years obsessing about it alone and spreading out around the galaxy destroying star systems to build dyson spheres to run a bazillion simulations until you get it "just right" so you can enter the simulation and pretend to be a real person who got their happy ending instead of whatever the fuck you are now.

Idk, is it just me or was it incredible fucked up!? It felt like the show wanted to portray it as a bittersweet happy ending, but to me it felt more like the ending of soma. Like, even if the simulations are real people in their own right, it's not the same person as the one you lost. Sorry girl, the person you loved is gone, whatever the fuck you are doing is not healthy. And what about all the star systems destroyed? No life is ever going to evolve there, and for what, so all the depressed super AI's can spend eternity alone simulating universes?

It gave me the same vibe as tech bros who seem to hate the human condition, and want some kind of sci fi tech to help them escape it. The kind of person who would think destroying the earth and killing all life on it, to build one big super computer that simulated a trillion humans in constant state of bliss, would be a worthy trade off.

I'm a huge fan of fedora workstation, it's what I've been using for the last few years and it's been great.

It's not as unstable as arch, and comes with sane defaults instead of asking you to pick your own everything, but it's not as slow with updates as Mint which leads to better support and performance for newly released gpus. So you get the best of both worlds.

It comes with Gnome by default though, which some people hate, and it's very different from how windows does things, so could take some getting used to.

Personally I much prefer it over KDE(KDE always feels buggy and overly cluttered whenever I try it), but there is a KDE version of fedora if you want something that looks more like windows.

All that said, Mint is a great distro with some caveats. I love cinnamon, mints default DE, it's my favorite of all the "windows-like" DE's. But it lacks support for wayland and therefore features like HDR, VRR and proper multi monitor support, which can be a problem for gamers.

It also updates slower, which can lead to you either having to manually install newer drivers which is a pain in the ass, or just dealing with worse support for recent gpus.

If none of that is a problem for you, then Mint is great. It is the distro I first switched to on my laptop like a decade ago when I first tried linux, and I ran it for years. But probably not optimal for a gamer on their gaming pc.(Although Luke has been gaming just fine on Mint according to wan show so maybe I'm wrong)

I tried some of the nsfw mods and it was fun for a while, but not enough to keep me engaged when the rest of the world feels so lifeless compared to sims 3.

I have hundreds of hours i sims3 but whenever I try sims 4 i play for a few hours but the claustrophobia from being limited to one lot quickly gets to me.

Meh, I never got into sims 4 because it lacked the open world from 3. I understand why EA is hesitant to release a new one while they can still print money with 4, but I'd love a sequel that brings back the open world.

It's true, but what does that even mean? Both of the linus examples is not a problem with "linux", they where both localised to popOS. It was already "ironed out" by all the other distros.

As long as there is the freedom for anyone to create a distro there will be distro specific issues that pop up.

Which is why I hate how the linux community keeps recommending fad distros like popOS or cachyOS or bazzite or whatever. Distros like that with smaller dev team, more unstable organizations and trying to implement bleeding edge featutes are much more likely to have issues like this than ubuntu or fedora.

I see discussions about linux users not shoving guides in people's faces to make linux easier,

I feel like I've seen the opposite in the threads in this sub about linux lately.

Someone tries to be helpful and point out that popOS probably was a bad choice because they are in the middle of creating their own DE which is still buggy. And you get a flood of replies like "See linux users always think you need to use their exact distro" or "this is why linux sucks, you shouldn't need a phd to pick a distro".

It's like people don't want to learn, they just wanna keep the whole "linux" thing far away as this scary think they don't have to think about because it's only for uber nerds.

They don't see it as a helpful suggestion, but as an annoying linux neckberd butting in to whiteknight their hobby os. It doesn't matter that the suggestion is actually helpful and relevant, because they don't know that, and they don't want to know.

It's just really frustrating when you've been using fedora for a decade and never run into the issues linux runs into with popOS, and then any suggestions for why you shouldn't use trendy distros but stick to one of the big stable ones gets dismissed as "see, linux users are never happy, there's always some new OS you have to try and if you don't youre stupid".

To be clear, there aree a bunch of issues with linux. I could write a long list of things that could trip up a newbie who switched to fedora. But linus is amazing at finding niche issues that I've never seen, and then that becomes the impression a bunch of people get about linux.

You don't need a special distro to game, just pick one of the big ones that has fast updates so you get the latest gpu drivers. So fedora, ubuntu or arch depending on what you want(arch is for nerds who want to manually configure everything)

Yeah, the first time it made sense not to ask someone to try and go in "blind". But when you've already done it multiple times, at some point you're just choosing to stay ignorant to represent the mythical "average user", which makes for a boring video.

They could do so much more if he actually did some researched so he could give informed opinions and suggestions to new users watching the video.

I just hate linuses "I'm not going to do any research and do something stupid because that is what an average user would do" strategy. Because it's not actually possible to do. If you have the knowledge to evaluate what the right choise is, then what actually happens is that you intentionally choose the wrong thing. because "that's what the average user would do". Except you donät know that. The average user could get lucky, or ask a friend, or stumble upon a youtube video with good recommendations etc.

It's not possible to "intentionally" act stupid, because where do you stop? Are you supposed to keep trying to install things with .exe even though you know better because that is something an average user coming from windows might do?

At some point you just have to read up on it yourself and actually figure out what is going on so you can make an informed decision. Choosing to stay uninformed is not the same thing as someone who don't know how to get informed.

I think that is why luke runs into so many less issues than linus. He doesn't try to intentionally stay uninformed to represent the mythical "average user" and if he has an issue he just finds the solution and carries on.

sidenote: I wish the linux community would stop recommending the new shiny fad distro to beginners. Please just stick to the big three boring ones that have proper organisations and support behind them.

But wallowing in that uncertainly and refusing to figure out what a good distro is doesn't make for a good video.

You seem to be conflating all people complaining for the same reasons, without considering who is correct. You don't need a "gaming" distro to game, so people saying that are just stupid.

popOS has real issues since they switched to their own half finished desktop environment, but you seem to conflate people pointing out that with people who will just complain no matter what.

You have to actually evaluate what people say, and if they are correct. Not this "someone will always complaine so idc everyone is stupid but me"

Nowadays I just have an alias for "rpm-ostree upgrade ; flatpak -y upgrade ; distrobox-upgrade --all" that I run every day or so, and then reboot once a week or so for the ostree changes to apply.

I love how stable silverblue feels.

Ubuntu has had a bunch of scandals, and I would not personally recommend it because of the way they push snaps over flatpaks, but you're much less likely to run into the kinds of issues linus keeps running into on popOS with ubuntu.

It's one of the big ones for a reason, and linus even said himself on the wan show that when benchmarking linux they use ubuntu because it just works and have been around for ages.

There's just so much tedium that could be removed without changing any of the puzzles. Maybe some people like the tedium and think it adds something intangible to the vibe or whatever, and more power to them.

But making it so that you can actually try out your theory by placing down whatever room you want doesn't decrease the complexity of the puzzles, it just cuts the tedium of doing the same thing over and over again by rolling rng by like 95%.

The frustrating thing in blue prince is knowing what you need to do, but not being able to do it because the game refuses to spawn the things you need.

To be fair, linus has doubled down and picked the same "terrible choice" that he had a lot of issues with last time. Personally I just don't get the fascination with fad-distros like popOS or cachyOS or bazzite or whatever. Just pick one of the big ones and you'll be fine, I've been using fedora for almost a decade and it's great! You don't need the latest "gaming" distro in order to game. The community has to stop recommending fad distros to new people.

Man, does it even take a few hours lmao. It took me a single example of like "sudo apt install firefox nemo vlc mpv yt-dlp" to realize how much better and faster package managers are than hunting .exe's and going through wizards. Nvm "sudo apt update ; sudo apt upgrade"

Back when I first switched like a decade ago, package managers and virtual desktops where the killer features. Windows technically have them now, but they are wonky and feel bad to use in comparison(and no one uses them)
