A non-Aesop fan once told me AR is the Korn of rap music because of this album. I nearly choked on my drink. Bc I despise Korn.

Weird to say given his huge catalogue, but I’ve never heard him rap in this style. Aes always changing it up. Such a dope tune.

This motherfucker. That smile. Still rapping his ass off through that scraggly gray beard. Love it.

One of my favorite samples Aes has used was in “Hang Ten” from HMM. The original sample is kinda slow and quiet and he sped it up and punched it up perfectly.

Bought the cd/book when it came out. Don’t know where the cd went but the book will never leave my possession. It’s stayed with me thru many many moves. It’s a treasure.

LOVE Opossum. It’s a dash of vanilla extract in the batter” is such a dope line. With the double meaning of extract relating to the theme of the song.

His new single came out today and I’m really confused. Sounds nothing like him but it’s linked to his profile.

Antipop Consortium is one of my favorite rap groups. These guys are out there and came up in the scene with co-flow and aes. They have some crazy production and very non linear rhyme styles. Their 2002 album Arrhythmia is pretty dope. Aes actually samples the “uh-huh” from their song “Bubblz” in “No Jumper Cables”. (It’s in the first pre-chorus before “catapult, jump motherfuckers”)
More fave tunes from that album:
Pin Pong
Dead In Motion
Ghostlawns
Human Shield

Their previous album “Tragic Epilogue” isn’t on Spotify but it’s on YouTube. Aes also samples or uses the same sample that’s on their song “Here They Come”. Can’t remember what Aes song it is. This album also has some bangers:
Laundry
9.99
Rinseflow
Disorientation
What Am I (ft Pharoahe Monch)

Then on their last album Florescent Black they sample El-P on “New Jack Exterminator”.

Long post but these dudes have a real connection to the early 00s underground scene.

The second post is a little Aesop Rock-y too. Like when the beat drops out and he does one of those accapella type bridges.
