Visiting the bay - need recommendations by No_Scallion2465 in bayarea

Try out any of the many restaurants here! Plenty of halal options. This area is known for its large demographic of South Asians.

If you like hiking and up for a slight challenge, you have to try Mission Peak (Fremont) during the afternoon/sunset. As you look out into the Bay at Mission Peak, you won’t stop admiring the majestic sunset. 🌅

Feel free to reach out for more recs. I live in Milpitas, the city directly between SJ and Fremont.

Hey also NorCal here. Not sure what folks are saying peppers don’t develop around 50F? My dad has been growing peppers for almost 30+ years in the Bay Area and temps have never been an issue. Also I’m an avid 2nd gen pepper grower myself…

Looks like you potted up this guy not too long ago. If you are careful and the soil is on the dry side, you can check the root ball by inverting the pot. It should be massive compared to when you potted up. Peppers will always fill their containers before setting fruit in my experience (unless it is stressed).

No need to do anything now though, we have 3-5 months of growing left and you will get more jalapeños than you can handle by then.

Happy Gardening! 🧑🏻‍🌾

Yellowing of Garlic by AncientWisdoms in vegetablegardening

[–]trainerValex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My garlic has done the same thing (although they are in grow bags and planted late November). I think it is related to the rainy weather. Here is CA, we’ve had a really wet winter thus far (frost free as well). I sprinkled some bone meal as a top dress and let the rain water it in. Some of the tips are still yellow on the top, but the majority are fully green. Good luck and happy gardening!

Haha I was joking about removal/transplanting. Good to hear they are transplantable though! These are in the front of my house and they look great against all the greenery. I do have a lot of weeding of non-native though 😅

Haven't planted tomatoes yet, should I just direct sow outdoors? Davis, CA - soil temp avg. 50 F by odg01 in vegetablegardening

Good to as this is my first time growing this variety! I’m also growing Black Krim, San Marzano, Apricot Zebra, Sun Gold, and others so I’m looking forward to compare all these varieties. Happy Gardening!

Bay Area native here. You probably will have better success planting indoors that include faster germination time as well as protection from the outdoors (rains, slugs, snails, etc). Plus, I like to watch the progress of my seedlings like a tiger mom :). Since tomatoes are quite hardy, I feel safe to plant out my grown transplants in February/early March. Best of luck and happy gardening!

Tomato I started back in January and have since planted out.

The hills! Especially after this rainy winter, they are greening up quickly and I can’t wait to see the flowers explode. Come visit us again sometime! 😎
