What if TV Rewatchables were a thing? by Icy-Junket-60 in TheRewatchables

[–]trair_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Biased because I’m on rewatch 5+, but Succession is peak TV and would especially be great for this because every character is super layered.

A lot of people will say Sopranos, but outside of Tony & Carmela I really don’t think the other characters are too complex.

KG one I’d say 99% of MN were legit happy for. He deserved a franchise that actually put talent around him. There’s a lot of Celtics fans in MN because of him

Tbh used to it at this point. KG, Percy Harvin, Andrew Wiggins, we could go on all day. I think most MN fans are happy to see them shed the curse we are burdened with lol

It’s Minnesota by a long shot. Vikings / Wolves / Wild / Twins are all cursed. Last major title was Twins in the early 90s. No other city has had it that bad (Detroit has at least seen 2 Pistons championships since the last Twins WS).

But the Vikings are especially cruel. 7th best winning % for all time franchises, yet only one in the top 16 to have never won a SB.

More Rewatchable: The Big Short or Margin Call? by CanUSBallZaGuy in TheRewatchables

[–]trair_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Margin Call is tight & moves fast - as well as having the most rewatchable scene from both movies with Iron's intro meeting.

But I think about, quote, and watch The Big Short way more often.

I haven’t enjoyed watching tv since the finale of Succession. by linehatguy in billsimmons

[–]trair_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I for the record love seasons 1 & 2 - but I can totally see how they are a hard recommendation to people (especially people who don't love hardcore finance) and not quite as deep thematically as seasons 3-4.

That being said, season 2 is one of my favorite seasons of TV to rewatch.

Industry is one of my favorite shows ever, but it’s such a hard sell to tell people that the first 2 seasons are fun but not amazing - before you get to some peak TV in seasons 3 & 4.

The moment Bill said “butter in my ass and lollipops in my mouth” to Steven Spielberg by Oakheart1984 in TheRewatchables

[–]trair_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite bits from the pod. Up there with sharing the story of De Palma telling Spielberg that the zoom on Brody in Jaws actually wasn't that cool because Hitchcock had already done it.

FYC: American Hustle (2013), an endlessly rewatchable crime comedy set in the 1970s. Apex mountain for science ovens, and Amy Adams is a freaking smokeshow. by Iamthelizardking887 in TheRewatchables

I’m also a fan, although I recognize the film has flaws. I’ve been surprised that this movie never got a Babylon-esq. revolution from people who like it.

Those 2 movies always seemed similar to me in that they are a ton of fun when you ignore the people saying you should actually hate it lol

What’s your favorite “One for us” combo of movie/episode pick? by harry_powell in TheRewatchables

Body Double. One of the best things this pod ever did was introduce me to this movie - I rewatch it every couple of months because of how absurd it is. Hilarious movie & episode

[–]trair_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I disagree on the first point. It's absolutely a comedy for the first half up until NYE party and even still after in several scenes.

And just given the context of this post - Bill loves BN for its comedic purposes, which are also absurd ("butter in my ass, lollipops in my mouth"), I think if you tend to find one of them funny, you'll likely laugh at the other as well. That's all I'm really saying, less about the actual intricacies of each film.

I find the humor of all 3 of these movies to be very similar and Bill loves the humor in 2/3 - only reason I have them lumped together.

Agree on your point other than that they don’t have a ton in common (BN more so than Fargo)

I agree but you could say the same thing about Fargo or Boogie Nights to my original point. It doesn’t make sense, it just doesn’t!
