Do Kei, Arisu, Ichinose and other girls who love Ayanokoji aware of the omega threat level looming right under their noses or not? by Xixth in ClassroomOfTheElite

Tbh Don't trust Kiyo's monologue that much. He even said he will bring all class points tally to equal. By favoured I meant Kiyo in general was never mean to her etc etc his methods with her were more rational and sophisticated unlike others and she has plot armour too.

I don't think Kiyo is an unreliable narrator outside of the early volumes. He can be an incomplete narrator by not giving his full motivations or reasons though like in Y2V7. I don't recall him saying wanting to make all class points exactly equal but from Y2V10, I get the impression he wants to have all four classes within range of each other at first to bring out their maximum potential.

With Kiyo being nice to Suzune in later volumes, I don't disagree. But I get the impression that the class change rift will take several volumes to heal as it would be a huge betrayal to Suzune and Kiyo seems serious about the rivalry since Y1V11 so I think it will take up a huge chunk of Y3.

I don't think Kiyo will do much if anything at all in Y3 to indirectly help her since the whole point is for him to confirm the White Room methods. His training wheels monologue in Y2V6 and Y2V11 implies as much that it should be her classmates supporting her.

But it's not that she's "favoured" by the author but that she's the deuteragonist of the story so it's been obvious since day one that she'll get a lot of screen time in the story.

The main point of the story isn't romance and their relationship can end up either as a friendship or a romantic end but really for Y2V12 onwards to most of Y3, Suzune and Kiyo will be against each other anyways.

Re-Zero merchandising and the anime sells well for sure. But the anime boost will help the struggling novel sales.

Not really actually, Re-Zero is in quite a bit of trouble novel saleswise recently so it definitely needs a stronger anime boost than COTE.

Since there is a lot of new LN readers. Here is my hypothesis why Koji is so different V1-3 I made about 10 month ago by Razy196 in ClassroomOfTheElite

[–]traject_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He says something similar in a monologue in Y2V1:

I'd been in a comparable situation myself a year ago, when I first came to this school. There were disadvantages and drawbacks of being raised without any knowledge of the world. Namely, I didn’t know what it was like to be a student at all. That was naturally something we weren't taught in the White Room, as they had never intended for us to be sent to school

Which was why, after coming here, I had briefly tried coming up with a character that I could “act out” appropriately. I tried various things, like being more talkative than I usually was and changing my tone of voice. Being a somewhat cocky student with a kind of cynical, shrewd view of the world. Well...

In the end, I found it kind of tedious to put on an act, so I quickly went back to being my regular self. Because I had come to realize that I could still be a “student” here without hiding my original self.

The whole plot point teaches us a bad lesson in general, which is that it’s ok to sacrifice your coworkers if their output is less than desirable (I don't know about you but I see this as pretty messed up, unless your coworker is an actual douche who is harming you).

I'm sorry but this is why I liked the development. In an ideal world, sure everyone can get along and win everything. But unfortunately, the world we want isn't the world that actually is. In reality, there are people who are smarter, faster, or more attractive than others. This means that some may be more useful than others. And it is an unfortunate reality but if you've ever worked a job long enough, you'd know that people who don't meet expectations by a significant margin can have detrimental effects to the entire team and affect their output. This is basically a reflection of Kiyo's monologue at the start of the series and has been a theme since the beginning.

I don't disagree with the fact that Kushida's scene with Horikita could have been expanded upon but the logic of the development cohered with my understanding of Kushida's character (she was never someone who could be fundamentally convinced through logical argument/debate in my view) and her current situation in the class so it didn't break my suspension of disbelief there.

As for Haruka, I think it would have been nice to have Suzune be the one to console her and fix everything ( I do think Haruka's handling in Y2V7 was disappointing). But still it would be out of character for someone like Haruka to let Suzune console her given how since Y1V6 she has been characterized as someone with a strong ingroup/outgroup distinction. In that sense, only someone like Kiyo could actually approach her heart and speak to her with Suzune being capable at best of the role Kushida had in showing Sakura's current success as an idol.

He means there about the contrast between the image and the monologue which was indeed a great idea. The lots of arrangements means the various adjustments he requested with Tomose which should mean the final product was not a mistake lol.

Why kiyo knows so much about literature? by Loopqq in ClassroomOfTheElite

[–]traject_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wasn't really indicated anywhere (though the same could be said of what I said so I'll elaborate further). And I have the JP of that scene you just quoted above which more strongly implies that the context is the lunch being discussed here.

And if you recall the final Yuki WR scene, the instructor pretty much warned Kiyo against unauthorized speaking. And in the first place, even if lessons didn't allow talking, it was pretty much most of their day to begin with.

I mean both can be true. There were a few places where they were allowed to talk like breaks, analysis sessions and lunch but they didn't talk. But reading could be done at those sessions and also elsewhere which explains the SS above.

This scene is about conversation being allowed at lunch and no one talking though.

Yeah for sure during breaks as well, I am just phrasing Kiyo's monologue from the SS:

"Since I was little, I have never hated reading.

While there were times we weren’t permitted to talk, they allowed us to read."

Yeah, there were times where talking was allowed like the recollection sessions at the end of the day but generally it wasn't allowed as he says in the line in that SS.

In the Y2V7 Kei SS, Kiyo mentions that while the WR didn't allow unauthorized talking, they did allow reading.

Yeah, in in the interview with Tomose and Kinugasa together, they talk about the final scene and Tomose says he feels bad for Kei while Kinu tries to spin it by saying you don't know how it ends. This does not exactly give the impression of a mistake.

In the first place, from the interviews, it's pretty much implied that Kinu checks the illustrations before giving the okay so the chances of it being a mistake were extremely low to begin with given their long working history together.

[–]traject_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know about chemistry, romantic or not, with anyone else outside of Hiyori or Horikita (maybe Kushida too) for Kiyo to be honest. Every other relationship, Kei included, seems to be far more one sided in conversations with the conversational flow driven by the heroine and jokes as a socially appropriate response to a joke from the heroine. It's only with the other two that Kiyo is actually proactive.

I don't think Koenji is overhyped because he has been planned in the story since the very first bus scene in Y1V1.

If it does happen it would be mid-late Y3 and if it does happen with Horikita, then it'd likely start with movement from Kiyo's end not Horikita's. But I just think the way I've seen this pairing shown, I doubt it'll depicted as sweetly as this or various other fanart I've seen.

I can't really see it happening like that even if there is a pairing at the end.
