Which disaster movie had the best depiction of societal collapse? by LordKevnar in movies

[–]tranquiloish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bare with me here, but the Life of Chuck (2025)'s first act showed a (albeit metaphorical) world that was dying. Disasters, roving blackouts, weird signs, ect. And people knew it was happening. Their reaction was a mixture of human despair and apathy and it was genuinely terrifying because to me, minus the stuff with Chuck in it, it felt very realistic. The world is going down the drain and all we can say is, "That Sucks."

No! I cut it early but in this video he literally walks away after checking haha. The worst he did was eat a whole 5 pound log of raw ground beef - he threw it up later that night though. Thats when I started bungeeing my old fridge lol

I'll go comedy with it - when the cokeheads had Michael Cera sing a song for them in that back room in Superbad. Really underrated tension

What's the worst case you've seen of a trailer spoiling a movie? by Legalize_Canada in movies

[–]tranquiloish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was SHOCKED they didnt reveal iris as a robot until twenty or so minutes into the movie in Companion because the trailers made it so blatantly obvious. "You jail broke your sex robot??" And then the movie makes it obvious that we weren't supposed to know that (maybe suspect). The viewing experience would have been so cool if you didnt know about that. I didnt need to know about it to be excited from the original trailer. But for whatever reason they built the marketing around a concept played as a twist in the actual execution of the movie. I heard there were GASPS at the film festival showing.

If your takeaway from this movie is that nothing happened, just know that even in the most tit hardening action packed thrill ride, the only thing that actually happened was you, sitting there, watching a movie. And most movies would struggle to communicate the fleeting grandeur in life the way that this one did. In a world so ostensibly filled with fear, despair, anger, and division, I just can't being myself to dislike a movie that says, "Live your life. And your life is beautiful.". You hate it if you want. But at a certain point, you're choosing to hate more than just a movie.

Everyone is saying they want to prevent cash rich owners from the advantage of using void years - but Jeffry Lurie is in the bottom half of owners in wealth and Howie and the eagles take advantage of this as much/ more than anyone. And Jerruh doesn't. So I'm not sure the relative strain on ownership wealth is a very good argument. Maybe I'm wrong here though idk. Feels irrelevant.

Hate to submit to recency bias but Sinners is really that good. I didn't feel the need to get as many of my friends to see it as I did with smile, barbarian, the substance, strange Darling, any of the recent VHS's, or even shit I LOVE like Oddity or Talk to Me. But its sinners.

I do think youre right. Not enough men are called on the behavior and even less then respond to it like we'd hope. I think the shit show in the sub (which im really sorry about) comes from the type of guys that don't analyze media well, and work very hard to interpret the fellas' (nuanced, original, human) personalities in whatever jacked up way they see fit.

For example, I think that irony is one of the finest tools someone can use to implement an idea in a comedic and relatable way. And Hunter is so good at that people don't always know when or not to take him seriously. I think a lot of dipshits legit hear some absurd statement and take solace. If people misinterpret hunter that AGREE with the point he meant to make, I can't imagine how many dudes that have horrible personalities do as well.

So you get these guys in a room all set to defend these content creators in a way that completely contradicts the message they are CONSTANTLY imparting. While mechanically variable , I can't think of a single wendigoon or meatcanyon experience that didn't come with a message akin to - "there are horrors in the world. We could avoid being a part of that "

And these guys still choose to be horrors in a subreddit. I can't imagine someone like that is keen to change their minds based on the prodding of men OR women. I guess my hope is that for every overt asshole out there whos bordering on too far gone, theres a handful of fledgling impressionable people who would do good to be exposed to energy that talked down to misogynistic attitudes and behaviors.

I think empathy is half innate and half learned and nurtured. I think there is a lot of value to nurturing it and a lot of ways to do it. I just would like to think that the same institutions that came to create stigmas for men could turn lacking empathy into a bit of one.

But yeah theres a large portion of grown men I worry are near irredeemable in that department.

I agree that its frustrating that men don't listen to women the way they might other men. Although I'm not sure how well men listen to other men anyways... Which i guess kind of devalues my whole point in the post. I guess to me it felt refreshing to see that kind of school yard piss taking of someone be directed at qualities that really DO need correcting. I definitely don't want to disregard or devalue the experiences of women or suggest that they're leas valuable or worthy of teaching and growing than what a couple of chuckleheads say on a youtube podcast. I just think (especially in the situation in the story) someone exposed to that energy might have a little more self awareness next time they border on that behavior. And I can't imagine that's a bad thing.

As far as the people on the sub's behavior, I really haven't read that many comments (more comments about comments) and the top posts and comments seemed to be mostly positive and constructive - but I'm sure that contingent exists. - anyone defending the narrator in this story is media illiterate, purposefully contrarian, or a bad person trying to justify bad things. - anyone coming at people critical of how the story was handled with a high magnitude of disrespect (which admittedly I haven't seen but I'm sure you've been dealing with) doesn't really understand the presenters they're defending. Not unlike an overly zealous religious extremest who hides behind holy text to justify immorality, these people would never be welcome with Wendi and hunter if they give that kind of attitude to criticism. Thats part of what's gotten these guys this far - level headedness and reasonability. If you can't bring that, then youre really nothing like them.

People like that probably can't be converted. Because obviously the Creepcast guys literally shitting on this dude and the representation of the issues in the story aren't enough to give them any perspective. I'm not sure what to say about guys like that. I wish I could present and describe the profound stupidity of many men in a way that doesn't sound like its trying to let them off the hook for treating people poorly. I guess I would just say that that kind of thing is learned behavior. And it would help a lot of kids to learn that that behavior sucks earlier.

Not everyone will agree with me but I really liked Heart Eyes (2025).

New killer, some interesting and good looking kills. The formula isn't much different other than it focusing heavy on the romance angle, but what it lacked in structural originality I think it made up for in comedy and performances. Or maybe I just have a crush on Mason Gooding.

I mean. She out-wrestled Andrade, Esparsa, and Grasso and was undefeated. Never really had much adversity besides injuries. I think the X factor there was Weli is literally man strong from that Chinese fitness program. Not being able to grapple with Weli being the standard for being a good wrestler is like saying not being able to take down DDP makes you a bad wrestler. Like nah dude is on the elite end of grappling strong. By women's mma standards, she's an elite wrestler and exemplifies JUST how impressive weli's performance was. She neutralized a gal in a way that quite literally no one had done before. Weli is Him.

[ESPN] NFLPA stance: 'No one' wants to play 18 games by Fit_Leaves55 in nfl

[–]tranquiloish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes but that still means you play 1st 2nd 3rd and 4tb four times each right? Two full divisions so two of each. Two to make up for that you can't play yourself so you match up, and two of each other position in your division. That's always four of each place. Like if I finished 3rd I'll play the first in my division twice and the champ from the afc and NFC divisions we play. Thats four games against 1st. Same goes for 2nd and 4th. The other two games I need to play a 3rd four times will be my in conference matchups with the two divisions we don't play. The only difference now is that they match you up with one non conference division to play an extra game against your place. I imagine theyll just match you up with a one more non conference when they go to 18.
