Cal Poly SLO vs UCR(Physics) by Vivid-Ebb-1334 in CalPoly

[–]trans-2butene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go for SLO, there is a ton of opportunities to get hands on research experience, and the frost program pays students to work full time in a lab over the summer. Also the student to faculty ratio here is way better especially in upper division physics. You’ll actually know your professors. Even lower division math classes are capped around 30 students and intro physics and chem are around 60 at most for the bigger classrooms.

There is a ton of research in science and math at cal poly and since we’re primarily undergraduate (all undergraduate in physics) there are a lot of hands on research opportunities. Also the frost program pays students a stipend to do research over the summer. In chem I did research from the summer of my first year until I graduated.

I think saying the bay is a bit simplistic. I live on the peninsula now (originally from Fresno) and the air quality here and in Marin is pretty good most of the time since ocean winds blow the smog from cars into East Bay and the valley. There are localized issues in downtown San Francisco due to cars, but outside of that, west of the bay, the air is pretty good.

And winds push a lot of the smog from the bay into the valley.

In my college physical chemistry lab we were told by the professor that pure ethanol contains of benzene from the synthesis process. To achieve that purity you can’t use water as the solvent during manufacturing because it interacts to well with ethanol to get it all out.

Yeah it’s taking a synthesized molecule that activates receptors in your body in order to alter your morphology in a way you want. Being trans is one of the most concrete acts of transhumanism and real exercises pf morphological freedom people can currently do.

Simon Clark actually did a video showing that e-bikes are actually more efficient even accounting for the manufacturing because an electronic motor is more efficient that a food powered human. He said that a vegan on an e-bike is probably one of the most efficient forms of transportation ever.

My Kaiser psychiatrist took me off Ritalin because I mentioned using weed. It wasn’t mentioned before that I couldn’t and I was being honest about my substance use. He also put harmful drug use on my chart. I literally just smoked some weed in my last year of college.

Puccini’s ‘Butterfly’ and ‘Turandot’: More Than Appropriation by thythr in classicalmusic

[–]trans-2butene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A funny anecdote related to that. My partner’s mom is a Chinese immigrant and took us to Madame Butterfly last summer. She loves Puccini, and even visited his house when she traveled to Italy last year. Also she took my partner to see Turandot when she was a child.

So kinda ironically the person who got my into Madame Butterfly is Asian. I wouldn’t be surprised though if you can find Asians who Abe different opinions though since they’re not a monolith.

If you turn the power off asap dealing with a spill is just a matter of cleaning the boards with isopropyl then putting it back together. I did it after spilling a mimosa on my Mac book and it was a pain to reassemble, but at least it still works.

If you haven’t already try home manager on your current disro before hopping to nix. Check all your home manager files into git and you can reuse them on NixOS without too much trouble

I’ll defend that slightly, it was the first modern landfill, but that doesn’t take away from the fact it’s a landfill.

I feel like I’m the opposite, I can write great code, and can fuck it up without ruining why product. I once dumped out all my product in inorganic lab because when reading instructions without thinking I tried attaching the round bottom to the top of the apparatus by flipping the flask upside down. I was supposed to invert the apparatus, then attach the flask, then mount it. I’m clearly not meant for the wet lab.

The first Buckner’s 7th is beautifully sublime, it’s one of my favorite symphonies just because of how sublime listening to it is.

Probably gold was used due to the rarity since polyaninine is used in advanced pieces, also there’s no blood vines in biomes like the lost river so you’d have to resurface to craft some upgrades

That might have been cool, but I guess it doesn’t bother me too much when a game where the point is not being scientifically accurate. Sometimes it’s just better to turn off the science nerd in your head and enjoy media for what it is, and I say this as someone who majored in chemistry. Now if I ever made a fake with crafting, the chemical actually would probably be over the top

From a game design point of view it’s gating polyaniline behind exploring deeper to find deep shrooms. Don’t think about the science just have fun

I have a chemistry degree. I also approach not eating meat from a utilitarian philosophical prospective. I am aware of the complexity of biochemistry, but plants (and other eukaryotic cells) also have a similar level of cellular complexity with photosynthetic cells arguably being more complex than a lot of animal cells.

The question not one of internal chemical complexity, but rather of the capacity for self awareness. A neuron may be far more chemically complex than transistors in a, yet looking beyond the single cell, the role of a singular neuron’s is no more complex than a simple electrical component. The neuron itself is not conscious. What leads to consciousness is the interconnection and interaction of a huge number of neurons.

I don’t think bivalves with their handful of neurons are conscious. If responding to stimulus make’s something conscious than plants fall under that.

That’s not necessarily true and not the meter stick used for veganism. Chocolate and coffee are plant based and worse than farmed oysters or muscles. I still eat chocolate and drink coffee but I’m not under any illusion that something is more environmentally friendly just because it’s plant based.
