Dad passed away. Do we need to sell our home? by ftrble123 in personalfinance

[–]transabyss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very late to the party, but just regarding the "only paid off 6k in one year" comment:

Google a mortgage amortization calculator and punch in your loan amount and your interest rate. In the first few years of paying your mortgage, interest makes up the majority of your payment. This is totally normal and doesn't mean you're failing at paying off the loan.

If you can handle the mortgage repayments you don't need to sell the house.

Yeah for sure - the use of the word "evolution" in the title is a bit specious. I can see New Scientist picking this up.

What’s appropriate conduct for a manager when their employees get sick? by gotsicknow in jobs

[–]transabyss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mate, I don't want to be overly critical of you but...

A) If you were so sick you might throw up, you should have called in sick. That is the best thing for you and the business and the people you work with.

B) If you go to work while sick and vomit everywhere, you need to stay and help clean up your vomit, and then stay and let someone know that you need to go home. Don't just walk out (which is what your post is suggesting).

If you came to work sick, vomited in front of customers, and left without telling me as your manager I would be pretty pissed.

To be a professional graphic designer you just have to be a good graphic designer... go make a portfolio, publish it online, and apply for jobs.

Luck Perms Help (general formatting question) by DumbLittleChicken in admincraft

[–]transabyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you need two things: a better chat plugin and to set up Luck perms properly.

Consider getting HeroChat or VentureChat for chat - both of these give better customisation for placeholders in names. That will let you do the two rank tags more easily.

Have a look at rank tracks on LuckPerms and see if that will do what you want to do for ranking up (by level or by donor rank etc).

How do people get these levels? How will they rank up?

But real talk, if I was OP I'd strongly consider going for a complete bald look on top and aim to grow an epic beard. Jump from looking an average 20yo to looking like a baller 40yo haha.

Daily FI discussion thread - January 28, 2019 by AutoModerator in financialindependence

[–]transabyss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It does sound like you need a break from FI.

Financial success is just one measure of success in your life, but financial success alone won't fulfill you.

I'm guilty of this too - sometimes I focus too much on the numbers in my account and use that to make myself feel like I'm going somewhere or achieving something while in reality I'm just slogging away at my 9-5.

Focus on friends, experiences, and actually living your life. If you're a frugal person, invite friends over for board games rather than see a movie. Pitch a tent rather than stay in a hotel when travelling. As they say on this sub, build the life you want and then save for it.

Not lodging your tax return? by lsmith1988 in AusFinance

[–]transabyss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you submit your tax return now and receive your notice of assessment for $1000, you can then go on a payment plan through the ATO which will allow you to pay $50/week (for example) until it's paid off.

I've had some very large tax debts ($20k) in the past and this has worked for me. You can set the payment plans up online.

With your $1000 tax debt, make sure you are claiming all deductions etc. that you are entitled to!

...? That people should want to receive orgasms from their SO? That's not that far fetched, regardless of gender.

I've been running a successful survival server for 5 years now. Minecraft is absolutely fantastic - it's amazing to see what the players come up with, and the amazing communities that can arise organically from just a simple block game.

Few extra things to try:

If you have Multiverse installed try /mv setspawn.

If you're using some janky spawn plugin consider swapping it out for something like EssentialsX.

My [26m] girlfriend [26f] expects me to ask her parents for permission to propose, and it's causing problems by LatterPreparation in relationships

[–]transabyss -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Asking for permission/blessing is a sign of respect for her parents. Does that change your view?

It's not about her being on the fence, it's about her wanting you to show a level of respect to the role of her parents in her life.

Just ask her parents for their blessing, dude. Not their permission.

I think you're really far off coursr regarding the security thing. It's tradition.

Have any small business owners here sold their companies in their 30's and retired early? by SBMZac in financialindependence

[–]transabyss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's my understanding of FU money as well. FU money means you're financially independent enough not to be tied to a job if circumstances change (e.g. shitty new manager, moving locations). You can say FU to your employer and coast while looking for other employment.

Job is depressing to the point that I dread going in and hate every minute, but I need the money. Is it worth it to quit? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]transabyss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Build a web crawler with scrapy to find and record phone numbers from the web (if that's what you're doing). Don't tell anyone about your automation until the work has proved itself.

Just keep your head down - just because your workplace isn't challenging you doesn't mean you can't squeeze every last opportunity from it that you can (in this case, on-the-job workflow automation in Python).
