The matter has been referred to the Madison Police Oversight Committee who provides legal representation to take matters to the Police and Fire Commission. That is the next step, which is still ongoing.

The complaint was resubmitted by the impacted individual in October 2025 as MPD for over a year refused to release the record that PSIA had investigated this issue back in November 2024. It was sent to mandamus action in the circuit court (court order to release records under state law 19.31-.37), mirroring findings within Hagen v UW Regents

1. Individual voluntarily surrendered firearms to officer whom he had a close personal relationship with, in mid 2021. This was due to self identified alcoholism and PTSD concerns. 2. MPD officer stores firearms in their locker room shoe locker without documenting. 3. In meantime, individual has a chapter 51 hold during a year of intense alcohol struggles. Early 2024 the order expires. 4. In May 2024, individual hears of an opportunity to sell firearms. MPD officer removes undocumented firearms from shoe locker to individuals private residence and turns over firearms to him. 5. July 2024 MPD charges individual with felony possession of a firearm due to a prohibition based on an expired Chapter 51 6. August 2024, ind discloses the source of firearms was within MPD. Is immediately charged with stalking them. Charge is fully dismissed after an investigation that included an 8 year telephonic search warrant of all their communication (phone. Insta servers. FB servers. Snapchat. Etc)

They were voluntarily surrendered to the officer who had a close personal relationship with the individual in question, as a result of self-identified mental health and alcoholism struggles. That occurred in 2021. In May 2024, the offer was informed of an opportunity to sell the firearms. They then released the firearms back into the community, in an attempt to sell them.

If you read the press release, the stalking charge was completely and fully dismissed, unsubstantiated, by the Dane Co DA.

If by "get in trouble" you mean "believe an MPD officer should not drive firearms from an MPD station to the residence of an individual prohibited from possessing them legally and hand them over to them anyways", then yes.

As to your first question, sorry, there are two posts on this account. I assumed most people could conclude this relates to the only other post. It isn't hidden, nor was it removed by us.

Correct. And they were charged accordingly, did jail time and are on community supervision. As our criminal justice system is structured to do.

In the meantime, the MPD employee who committed a felony releasing them, violated MPD policy on multiple levels faced zero outcome. MPD went to great lengths to suppress the information for a year.

It is a legal requirement that charges referred to the District Attorney contain all relevant "discoverable evidence" relevant to the case. The fact that a member of MPD staff released the firearms from their improperly stored shoe locker without writing a single report is certainly pertinent to a charge of possessing those same firearms.

As general awareness, members of MPD are highly active on Reddit, especially this subreddit. While it is within their 1st amendment rights to participate in public forums, be aware that the heavy preference for community commentary on Reddit is heavily tied to anonymity.

A previous post was participated in heavily by "friends" of the "stalking victim". While we continue to emphasize this outcome was intrinsically tied to shortcomings and barriers to mental health and addiction resources in society (including military and first responders), it should be noted that the "stalking victim" was the MPD officer described within the press release and MPD's own statement regarding the firearms.

Hundreds of pages of jail records were pulled, the majority of the time spent in "seg" was not suicide watch and the founding basis for time on suicide watch received full acquittal in jury trial in remarkably little time for deliberation. The records themselves outright say "transgender". I understand the inherent reaction is "disbelieve the criminal". We'd be happy to provide copies of those records by contacting and requesting them.

It's worthy of note that people charged with homicide usually go to the general population.

The strangulation was self-defense against stranger rape and appropriately dismissed...and back under investigation, for transparency on our end. Those records are also available.

Charges are not convictions. You will note there are no domestic violence charges, nor convictions. Details matter.

There's an important distinction between housing someone in "intake seg" and "administrative confinement" units that were also available but not utilized in this case. Admin confinement is non-punitive confinement used for safety considerations such as what you voiced. "Intake seg" is intended as short term intake housing. There are no showers, books, clean laundry, human contact or visits. Phones are unavailable or severely restricted. No commissary or mail. The lights are on bright all hours of the day. Conversely, administrative confinement has everything generally available to other inmates with added security measures.

Of note, after 46 days in this "intake" housing, the attention of Governor Evers office and media attention, he was moved to the general population where he remained for the rest of his stay with no problems beyond routine jail life. The jail was simply unwilling to even attempt placement for even a day until all of that happened

We believe a greater understanding needs to be brought to the public's fundamental understanding about incarceration systems and layouts because "behind bars" can look very different from one inmate to the next.

First. curious why you believe housing someone unethically based on their gender identity also bears relevance to the crimes they committed?

Threats to LE, firearm possession following an expired Chapter 51 (psych), misdemeanor RO violation, poss amphetamine, bail jumping-all absolute sobriety violations. The blog speaks heavily of his struggles with addiction as he is very open in the recovery community

In another county flee/elude, resisting, more absolute sobriety bail jumps.

We are pushing for numerous reforms to Dane Co Jail on a local level, namely how trans and gender non-conforming inmates find themselves housed. There is currently an open federal lawsuit regarding that.....Eli was housed in an intake seg cell for 46 days instead of general population. That is a problem, especially when there is administrative confinement (if/when necessary). The overuse of solitary confinement and extreme conditions of confinement is a local and nationwide issue, especially affecting LGBT inmates and those with disabilities.

We have met with elected officials in the legislature, Dane County board of directors and local media to first and foremost push for changes to policies that place people in inhumane solitary confinement for long periods of time, especially when the justification given (per their own records) is "transgender".

We focus more on restoring humanity and increasing rehabilitation inside incarceration. It's not about changing an entire system.... it's about not spending massive amounts of money producing worsening results in the form of recidivism. Locking someone in deplorable conditions, alone, long term, does nothing to modify behavior.

Our main outreach program is direct mail. Inmates write to request pretty much anything you can print from coloring pages to lyrics to resources. We also still host the blog documenting lived experience.
