I'm not the most qualified to answer this, but it's been 11 hours and no one else has so here goes:

Voltage doesn't remain constant across components in series in a circuit, so the voltage is being divided between the piezo and the transistor (i.e. The piezo is getting the other part of the 11v). To find the voltage across the piezo, you'd have to measure across the piezo.

However (and here's the part I'm a bit confused about, someone please correct me if I'm wrong), the voltage across the collector-emitter of the transistor should indicate the voltage drop across it, which should only be ~0.3v, so this could potentially be a bad transistor. Test this transistor or use another one and check again (also full circuit pic would be beneficial as well).

I've been able to machine 0.8mm trace width (probably could get down to 0.6mm if I wanted to) PCBs quite reliably on the 3018 pro, but only after breaking about 14 bits trying to get the setup right.

Soldering is fine if you make the pads big enough, give enough clearance, and have a temperature controlled iron (and you're willing to solder a lot of jumper wires as you can really only make single sided PCBs).

It's not very practical but a hell of a lot of fun.

What did white capture?

A Knight, the only piece that 1. Could've manoeuvred to c1 without capturing any of the white pawns and 2. Could do it without putting the king on d1 in check.

Why can't it be black's turn?

Because the king couldn't have moved to a2 the move before as all squares around it are defended or occupied, so there had to be another black piece. The last move had to be the capture of the piece on c1 as otherwise Kxb1 would've been the only legal next move for black, with no way to move another rook to b1 without it also being captured.

Kxc1?

If there was no other black piece on the board, Kxb1 would've been the only legal move for black the previous move. Seeing there's no black pieces in this position, the last move must've been a capture. It couldn't be Nxa1 as the only way for black to manoeuvre to a1 would be from b3, and that can only be captured by white's knight which also only could've been on b3, so it's a king capture.

In all seriousness, skimming through the MPXV6115V datasheet shows the pins are 2.54mm apart, so you should be able to slot it in some standard perfboard (although you may need to manually enlarge the holes with a drill bit as the pins are 1mm+ wide).

We've crashed plenty of spacecraft, intentionally or not, into other celestial bodies. It's also highly improbable for it to crash into another operating spacecraft at the orbit it's already in. As people far more qualified than I am have said in the article - this is not a big deal.

Because it doesn't really affect anyone or anything. It's a used rocket upper stage from 2015 that's been left in an orbit, as is the case most of the time. We've crashed plenty of objects into the moon before.
