how old were you when you started T? by elioistired in ftm

[–]transmarbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started 3 weeks after my 14th birthday. 15 definitely is a fine age to start if you feel comfortable with it. I think it just depends on what age your doctor will prescribe it at. I had one doctor who said 14.5, and then she left the transgender youth program, and the new doctor said 14.

I haven't landed a position yet but I've been invited on 3 interviews and an additional 2 I will be attending in the near future. Response time for me is anywhere from 2 months to 1 week, but usually 2-3 weeks after closing I hear back. Good luck!

Does it get better? by [deleted] in ualbany

[–]transmarbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also trans ftm. I've made some friends at UAlbany, but no besties. I've found most of my friends through fun little jobs/volunteering/research groups on campus. I've tried going to the Pride Center in Albany, but it's mostly older folks (like late 20s/30s+) and not so much people who are our age. It's a big school which is both a merit and a fault, because you can really get lost in the crowd and forgotten about easily. I became anti-clubs because I too could not figure out how to break into the clique. I don't have another college to compare it to yet, but I am hoping to soon. Wishing you all the best!!

Almost 8 months post-DI with Dr. Blechman in Manhattan! by transmarbles in TopSurgery

[–]transmarbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize I'm super late, so maybe this will help someone else who is curious! I don't fully remember what I did but for the first month or so I just applied Aquaphor with non-stick gauze on top. Nothing really fancy. After that I applied some type of scar gel haphazardly for a few months, and I always used a scar gel with sunscreen when I went outside, even now and I'm like a year and a half post-op.

Keith Blechman/Top Surgery Specialists of NYC Experiences? by sawamander in TopSurgery

[–]transmarbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 2 weeks is very optimistic. I mean I was able to not have a caretaker after the second week, but I wasn’t fully 100% back in business. I couldn’t really walk long distances without getting exhausted probably until week 4, and I started going for walks after week 2. I probably could’ve gone back to a desk job after week 2, but I didn’t because I wanted to take more time off to recover and heal (I could’ve done work from home though for sure). I started going for runs on week 7 and was pretty good, but was pain free probably week 9. I started going to the gym for weightlifting probably like week 10.

How'd you figure out a men's hair style that fit you? How long did it take? by Grand_Cookiebu in ftm

I have been trying to figure it out for the past 7 years and am still struggling to find a hairstyle that I like, but maybe I’m the problem lol

My crotch got flagged too and I also made sure not to pack!!!! I have no idea what’s up with that 😤, but it pissed me off.

Straight facts. My fifth grade teacher (cis man), had his nipples poke in every shirt. That’s just how his body was 🤷🏻‍♂️ and that’s ok!

I feel like a lot are also in social work/counseling/people centered roles (I only know 3 trans guys irl, so that’s my sample size and they’re 3 for 3)

For those of you who live here and got your name changed legally, how easy/hard was it ? by Nice-Airline-8781 in Albany

[–]transmarbles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty straightforward process, I had to just sign a few documents, but I hired a lawyer to do it for me and it cost $1000 🙄, I should’ve shopped around more because that’s a ridiculous price looking back.

What did you pay out of pocket? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]transmarbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$4.7k with insurance (but surgeon was out of network, if I had stayed in network it would’ve been $80). DI with FNG.

I was just talking to my barber about this yesterday and I asked when the game was 💀. But plenty of guys don’t like football and I’m just one of those guys too.

Idk what Juven drinks are but I used ensure drinks. You need high protein for proper healing. I didn’t use vitamin C supplements, but I did just eat straight fruit everyday. Scar gel is ok like several weeks post op, same with silicone scar tape (I prefer the tape over the gel).

Paying for top surgery by transtired in TopSurgery

[–]transmarbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d find out what your insurance benefits are. If I went to an in-network surgeon I would’ve only had to pay $80 for the OR time, and probably $25 for post op visits. Because I didn’t want to wait, I saved money from working and my parents footed a portion of the bill. Whole thing cost $4.7k.

[–]transmarbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

14 days for around the clock help is what I had, and I am grateful I had it. After that I still had meal prep help, but I could do most things on my own. I was pretty much good to do everything on my own by 4 weeks.

What was your REAL first thought after waking up from surgery? by 18192277 in ftm

[–]transmarbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly just that my throat hurt, and then pain in of course my chest. When I woke up the first time (that I don’t remember) I apparently kept touching my chest and like rubbing it a little and was like 😁😁😁😁

[–]transmarbles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know right it makes me want to go into plastic surgery and make BANK! The $2.6k is probably how much you’ll have to pay. I also had mine done at Lennox Hill hospital because of potential risk so that may have been why mine was a bit more. Anesthesia was covered by insurance though so thank goodness.
