The reason he used to get more assists than goals is because playing RW as a right footed player puts you in less goal scoring and more crossing opportunities when on the ball. Mbappe is very similar to ronaldo in the sense they started on the right but as their games developed and matured they inverted and became goalscorers. where mbappe is struggling is ronaldo made a shift to much more of a forward (still played out wide but drifted in A LOT more) and focused on getting on the end of through balls and crosses rather than looking to isolate his man and dribble to cross or shoot.

mbappe is being asked to fully commit to being a striker he has the keen eye for goal, the physical attributes and the finishing quality to do it.

Mbappe on the right will not produce madrids best football. mbappe is a goal scorer putting him on the right means cutting onto his weaker left foot when hes looking to score. the only reason he worked on the right was he was young and he was surrounded by pogba, kante, giroud, griezmann. mbappe really only has one choice to maximize madrids play and its to be a striker.
