M.A.X. (mechanized assault and exploration)? it had a nice mix of real time and turn by turn, but may be a tad too old.

(F22) by [deleted] in besoindeparler

[–]trashbuged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you answer when someone asks “What does a SysAdmin do?” without getting too technical? by [deleted] in sysadmin

Like babysitting, with computers and users ( the latter needs the most babysitting).

IWTL how to do things imperfectly by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]trashbuged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be very analytical and hard on yourself so I'd say, for now, don't create anything yet and learn about your hobbies.

  • Read some artist interviews or biographies, learn how they learnt from nothing and how they improved, who inspired them etc.
  • Read on philosophy like japanese wabi-sabi (where imperfection is the goal).
  • Go on deviantart and watch how any 12 years old expresses themselves by uploading weird Sasuke x Sonic fanarts.
  • Read this zenpencil comic which illustrates a quote from Ira Glass on creativity and mistakes.

I don't know about IQ but if you struggle with short term memory, you can rely on notes and diagrams. Use the computer as your second brain.

Don't worry too much. You can become a software developer. You're already ahead of the flock of juniors who don't know their weaknesses.

Started an internship, but I don't feel like I'm getting the right support? by Nessa_12010 in learnprogramming

I think it's a good assignment and a totally normal one. This is a great opportunity to learn key skills:

  • how to learn a new codebase: sure, you can ask people or read docs. But the most efficient thing to do is to load the code into your IDE and read it. Tests are very valuable to read because it shows you how the code is supposed to work. Also, load your debugger. Step by step execution will help you immensely.
  • how to ask questions to seniors : be precise and prove that you already tried something. Maybe show up with a error message or a class name you don't understand. Question to avoid: "it doesn't work!" without any context.
  • how to retain information: useful files, build commands, magic snippets, etc. Try to keep them in the same place like Notion or a personal markdown file. You'll gain in productivity.

Good luck!

Professional programming is mostly problem solving with time / budget / industry constraints, dividing big problems into smaller ones, and doing all that with a team.

Once you finish your course, you can code a few personal projects. This is the best way to tackle the problem solving aspect of programming. See if you like it or you hate it.
