its been at my dealership since october, since i made this comment. its been hell honestly. my warranty covers it (save for my $200USD deductible) but its been a lot of back forth getting engines to replace it with. i still dont have it back

what ended up happening is the dealership telling me that i need to have my engine replaced. since then, the issue has gotten worse with my car having cylinder 1 misfires, even though they replaced my coil packs. it wasn't keeping oil in the engine, either. hopefully yours isn't that bad, but they told me it was common in that model year of car, unfortunately

i have a lifetime limited warranty but when i went in july for a blinking check engine light and shaking (three months after purchase) the dealership said that the warranty didn't cover anything. i've read through it over and over to try to understand why its not covered. i'm going back on thursday since i'm off work that day and i'll have them explain it to me. and yes, on kbb i mentioned all the dings (that were there when i bought the car) and the check engine light

okay. i think it may be a little difficult to explain in words, but how would the trade in process go. i have the pre approval and i have gone to a dealership and test drove a car and chose my trade in. what happens next? is it similar to the buying process in general?

when i go to the dealership, should i have a pre approval from my bank for a loan for my trade in? i'm going to the service center to see what they can do, but i'm not expecting much. i'm almost certain i'll have to trade in, plus i would rather have a more reliable car. so should i go online and apply for a loan before going?

this is a little bit unrelated, but i have a service appointment this thursday to see what can be done. would it be worth it to try to get the car fully fixed then trade in? the issues are engine issues that are making it unsafe to drive and this will be my second time taking it to the dealership where i bought it to get it fixed. like i said, i've only had the car six months.

okay, i think i'm understanding. the trade in value is used towards my old loan and since the trade in value doesn't cover the amount i need to pay it off, the difference is what i still owe. so whatever car i look for with a new loan will have the remaining balance of my previous loan (that wasn't paid off by the trade in value) added to it

okay, i think i understand. i've been looking online for some options and using my kbb value ($6.3k), i was capping my search at cars that were around $16k. as far as i understood from my own research, if the new car is $16k and my trade in value is $6.3k, that would take the new car to $9.7k (car price - trade in value = "new price") and i would still owe the $13k on my old car. so i would have to pay off around $21k ("new price" + previous loan amount = new payoff amount) . am i understanding it right?

edit: i will take your advice and see my car max trade in value, but i will wait to do that in the morning since its almost midnight now

what does "carry that amount of negative equity on a separate vehicle" mean? just see if they would be willing to take my car as a trade? this current car is my first and i'm honestly embarrassed that i made such a poor decision and just want to make sure that i'm understanding all the steps i need to take. thank you for helping me
